Hi All Although Cyprus is advertised as a low crime area, crime is certainly on the increase especially since Cyprus joined the EU. I am therefore planning to install my own alarm system. I have experience in large security installations, the largest having a perimeter of 28Km, 200+ dual-sensor perimeter zones, 200+ cameras, 3 (zoned) control rooms and 1 master control room but have little experience of domestic installs. The walls and floors/ceilings of my house are steel reinforced concrete. Floors are ceramic tiles. Skirtings are a continuation of the ceramic tiling. How would you professionals install the system bearing in mind you always state that you hide the cab…

following a lively debate about this issue I have been getting more advice thus " garages are not special locations ( and so would`nt need part p for a fused spur ) UNLESS the supply for them comes from a special location " so it seems if the supply for the garage comes from the fuse board then were clear but if its spured from the kitchen , or if the fuse board is in the kitchen then we need to be certifying normal rules about testing prior to connection and issuing mwc still apply any clearer ? I've just fitted a Premier 48 to my house, quite impressed, i spend 3 weeks doing it nice any slowly so it looked professional etc, anyway i am using a speech/text dialler, but when i was testing i though it was pretty naff that it took over the phone line. I work nights sometimes and thus my g/f is home alone, if she tried dialing anyone on the home phone while its trying to ring me she wouldn't be able to. Soo..... how do a add a gsm dialler to it (and remove the naff one obviously), so its got its own sim card in it (and phone line basically). I presume using this option also allows me to arm/disarm via text message? check if its been armed etc (i'm forgetful som…

Hi, I am looking for some recommendations of good quality, "as installed by the trade" PIRs. I installed, a long time ago, a Pyronix panel and Pyronix Colt detectors. The panel is now a Veritas 8 and I am looking to swap out the detectors. I am happy to go for dual-tec as I want to eliminate false alarms. Suggestions please. Thanks andytw

I installed an Accenta8 a littel while ago and had a power problem to the house recently. The kpd stopped working but was still backlit so looking in the forum I saw that it could be related to battery; hence replace the battery. Had a spare kpd which I also replaced. However, during the resetting due to complete power loss I tried re-commissioning and all seemd to be going OK. When I try to set the full set or partial set it always sets the alarm off and points at Zone1 on the kpd. Zone1 is the EuroViper detector which I also replaced (had a spare) but can't remember what the settings on the dip switches was. So can anyone help - using 6core wiring.

Afternoon all. After spending all day at the mother-in-laws, I get home to some sanctuary but when unsetting the alarm (accenta G3) one of the kids touched something on the remote panel and now although unset, everytime the PIR detects us moving about the house, the remote panel flashes the zone and the thing beeps twice. Anyone got any idea? Its driving me up the wall!

I have just wired some PIRs to a menvier panel - I am certain the the wiring is correct i.e. red and black from the panel to power on the PIR, blue and yellow from the two alarm contacts within the chosen zone into the N/C contacts on the PIR and the white and green wires from the tamper contacts of the chosen zone on the panel to the '24hr' contacts on the PIR. When the PIRs detect movement, even with the alarm in open mode, they are triggering a tamper alarm. I have tried disabling the tamper altogether by looping it at the panel. The trigger is still activated. I have swapped the wires i.e tamper into the 24 hr and visa versa with the same result. The zone is set …

Hi I'm planning on self installing a Texecom Premier 48 panel, which I'll get my brother to check (not an installer, but has many years in the fire/security industry). The panel will go in the loft, with keypads on the hall and garage. As I'm gradually redcorating the entire house, I'm cabling, so the first question is, do I need 8 core cable for the keypads, or will 6 core suffice? It seemed sensible to ask before I put the coving up 8) After reading through some of the forum, I'm probably going to get a free quote and some advice on PIR placement, but thought I'd ask a couple of things here. Presumably, I wouldn't be able to put a PIR in the hall, as post and/or paper…

I have a Melcom ST6100 alarm panel and Melcom K6600 display, the part i need help with is that the when the alarm is NOT armed the display shows the welcome greeting as normal. But after exactly 4 minutes and 17 seconds (yes this is a bit sad i timed it) the day led flashes and the main display shows FAULT. then i have to set the alarm and reset it to get it back to the normal display, then it does the same as above again. The alarm panel does set and work. not had any complaints about a false alarm activation. Anybody have any ideas please. thanks Mark

Hi, I'm new to this forum and indeed fiarly new to security alarm installation, I'm more used to data installations. I have been asked to relocate an alarm system for a freinds business. The system is a Scantronic 9651 with a 9930 keypad, it all looks fairly straight forward, 2 door sensors and 2 PIR detectors with an external sounder, the system has a communicator installed. The display on the keypad is showing a "Global Tamper" message, I woulds first like to clear this message beofe moving the system, so I know what I'm working with. I presume there must be some sort of code to enter, can anyone advise a) How to clear the message B) any tips on refitting the system.…
