Setting-up Business Queries

Queries about setting up in the Alarm business.

  1. Started by Lectrician,

Tried to post a question in the Fire Alarm section, but can't. Hope it's ok to here. I have to link the firealarm in a pub to the extractor fans in the kitchen. Alarm sounds, trips the motor starter. Easy to do using the aux relay contacts in the panel, and the panel 24v supply to power a relay. (which will open the contacts on the fan starter). Ok, the question..... Does the cable from the panel to the relay ( which will be in a gewiss box approx 5m away), have to be FP or similar??

If you're starting up from nothing (i.e. no installations), how do you go about tendering for work if you don't have NSI approval (for example) or any form of BS approval? Surely, you are forced to accept non-approved jobs until you are in such a position to get approved (i.e. have a number of installations under your belt for the approval bodies to assess you)? Won't most people want their installations to meet/surpass their insurers pre-requisites? How do you get to a level where by you can install monitored/communicating systems? Do you have to gain any form of BT approval to install RedCARE systems. What would a monitoring station (ARC) expect from you in terms o…

This is something I've often looked into but never really got very far. We would like to offer customers credit, for installations, monitoring etc but would need a suitable credit agency I assume. Does anyone else do it and if so, who do you use? Ta Andy.

Just checking a few questions raised by others, and I just feel the need to check the following. We are having 2 9751 panels upgraded to include: 1) ability to attach proximity readers 2) 6 key fobs 3) Digital modem communicator This will then enable us to purchase the 'redcare' monitoring service. Total cost for the upgrade is £550 + vat (monitoring is extra). Please can someone assure me that we are not being ripped off? Many thanks bfg

Hi everyone, Im new to going it alone, but have about 3 years experience just doing alarms for a local electrical contractor, (quality outfit, metal cased Gardtec 840s only fitted) and 3 years at the MOD, mostly very specialist CCTV and vehicle stuff that has little or no place in the real world, sadly. Anyway, Im trying to choose a new bellbox; I'm going for quality not price, but want to avoid an oblong type box, too many of them round here (Im covering Bath & Wilts) all with horrible colours and tacky graphics. From my personal research, householders dont want a yellow or red box on their lovely house! But of course, if you are the Largest National Company, you …

hello fellow comrades. it is said that the security sector is crying out or should i say screeeeeming out for installation engineers and people should be encouraged to go into this field, one of the first steps that you could take is probably take up the city and guilds 1851 course which is what you are encouraged to do which is a recognised qualification, no matter who you speak to the c&g 1851 is mentioned and is a good idea to get into. now for the best bit has anybody ever tried to find any university, college, school, night school, alarm company or just about any one that can offer to do this course!!. the last people i was suggested to try was learndirect and out o…

Hi, I've a veritas 8 system here and the electric was cut for electrical work in the house but the alarm system was not prepared for this and when the electric supply was fixed the control panel to the alarm has been locked and doesn't accept any input, does anyone have any ideas how I can get this unit to respond? Thanks, TJ

<_<We moved house in November and inherited an already installed Veritas R8 with what looks like 2 PIR sensors - one upstairs and one down. Today, I set the alarm as normal, code number x 4 then Full....all ok at this stage. My wife returns home and enters the code but the alarm fires so she enters the code again x 4 then reset. It stopped but now with the tamper light permanently lit. Each time we try and set either part or full full nothing happens but an monotonous single tone dink...dink...dink. We don't have any manuals to refer to and was hoping some-one could offer some advice?? Subsequent to pressing as many buttons as I could think I took to the fuse box …
