Today we have had some technical problems with the server/host of Tsi. We initially lost all site info from 25/5/08 onwards but this was later recoverd upto a backup done by James on 8/6/08 and later updated again to a back up done by Dave on 10/6/08. If it was left to me we'd probably be back in a cave somewhere, so thanks to them for their good housekeeping, lol. We seem to be back up and running at full speed with only the new members & posts from the last 24hrs lost. Sorry to everyone who either joined the forum or posted in the last 24hrs. Please re-join and/or re-post and better luck this time we hope! Regards, Chris.

As most of you will be aware we have been getting alot of spam in the last month or so and it has became impossible for James & I to delete it all. We have asked assistance from several members and they have been kind enough to agree to help. These members are - Magpye, Luggsey, hpotter, Alarmguard & j.paul and they have been given the ability to edit and delete posts in the public forums and their membership profile has been changed to "spam cops" to reflect this. Rest assured that only spam posts will be deleted and James & I will then delete the spammers accounts. Please can everyone continue to help us all identify the "spam" ASAP by using the "report…

TSI ebay i suppose. If we had an area would we use it? We are currently wondering if an auction area for equipment would work. Would you use it? It seems we get a few posts about ebay sales being made when we may as well keep it here. Would we want it to be security related only, or not? ie if you had some unwanted xmas presents to 'change' would you want to be able to list them here? Any way, whats your thoughts?

Just to remind everyone that members with a post count of less than 15 cannot send or receive PM's. Members wanting to PM need to get posting! Please be aware we won't tolerate SPAM (posting unconstructive comments or topics) merely to raise post count. In addition members merely trying to "get to 15" so they can then PM about jobs or offer their products and services to others will be banned. We offer advertising packages on TSI - http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/Content/chat.asp I apologise to the many members that the above does not apply to and suggest to the few (we know who) causing the problems by abusing the PM privelege to stop before their accounts get …

Can I urge everyone to re-read the community rules & disclaimer.? http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/content/rules.asp http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/content/disclaimer.asp It seems to me that quite a few may have just quickly scanned through them, rather than take the time to properly read them.

As you know we at tsi do actually have a reviews section. We would like to see this grow and become a useful resource, ie reviews by engineers for engineers. I understand that a good review takes a bit of time to put together etc and this should be rewarded. To start this off we will be running competitions for each dicipline, starting with intruder, and this will run throughout august. Entries must be in by the end of august. We will later follow on with cctv, fire, access etc in the same way. We will be running regular prizes or something similar for reviews once its off the ground. Many of you spend a fair amount of time here and id like to think we can make it worthw…

Hi, I have been waiting to get vetted as a full trade member and it seems in my control section to have been done (under thedaddy is green text saying "Full Trade Member"). However when I click on the trade section I am still been redirected to the application page. Do I need another URL? or something? Not too sure who is the site mod to contact. Ok I am a muppet! lol Just seen as I posted the last message it must have refreshed it and its all poped up at the end of the public forums! Sorry to waste time!

Naming & Shaming Just recently we had an incident when a member who had used someones services, posted in the subby forum and complained about them. That post has now been removed. This is NOT what this forum is about, Naming & Shaming will not be tolerated. At the time I acted by editing the members complaining post, and removing the reffered to persons link from the site. This was possibly not the best action to take, but at the time it was what I thought best. Should any member in future have an issue with the services offered by any member of this site, then in the first instance they should take it up with them. I really do not want to get involved bu…

For the last month the member warning system has been switched off and only an occasional requirement for essential moderating/editing has been required which I hope is a glimpse of things to come. To this end James & I have made the carefully thought out decision to temporarily remove the position of moderator on Tsi. Moderation will continue by myself and James along with the 'report a post' function should you feel we have missed something. We dont want to go into rule changes at this time, but to keep things simple please dont post inflammatory, offensive, racist, swearing or abusive comments. As you know there is no warning system so there is no longer the …
