Resistance readings for circuits is the easy part, and something than should be do regardless of the NSI / SSAIB
Does not matter for sensing the amature, the dimple you'r on about is a spring is designed to push the amature off the lock when no power to lock, and is to be fitted furthest from the door hinge.

I would ignore the training courses as you have probably learnt more than they will teach you, going from what you have said above.
Taken the panels home and learning them is the best way.
