'New builds', if the builders are worth there salt, they should be allowing for alarms, if they are not then the architect is imho at fault-not rocket science is it, allow for sky, BT, data network etc etc for your multi engineered home-ahhhhh- what about an alarm to protect all this high tech stuff.........ooops...to late.

You make a valid point here. But the developer in this case (well, the sales assistant speaking on behalf of the company that is!) told us that they used to cable for wired alarms but most people didn't utilise the wiring.

So, it's obvious that they can cut costs and get a bigger profit margin if they don't bother with the wiring. It's annoying for those of us who would've used the wiring but I understand the economics.

Hence....I'm stuck with the wireless route and less than ideal cable routing!

But don't forget to always look on the bright side of life!

In new builds it's easy to get the bell and upper hall cable down.

Downstairs just depends on panel location etc.

I don't see the point in going for a 1-way system anymore. Scantronic Ion is pretty poor, vulnerable to jamming (intentional or not) and replay attacks (read this PDF on the Abus Secvest http://sitsec.net/files/secvest_analysis.pdf, Cooper have verified the same protocol is used with Ion). The Pyronix Enforcer is pretty good I think, but I think I prefer the Texecom Richochet gear. I like that you can use Wintex (PC interface software) easily with Texecom. The design of the system, electronically, is much more compact and looks like it was done from the ground up, whereas the Pyronix gear looks a bit hodge-podge.
