  1. All depends on the risk of course, if you are known for dealing in used bank notes with random serial numbers you would need a proper alarm, if you only just have a pot to urinate in then the Yale bell box will do just fine. Anything in-between those two requires more or less kit. It never ceases to amaze me that people are must have the latest iphone regardless of cost but dont want to spend any money on protecting the contents of their home. The enquiries we get after the event, people have lost their irreplaceable jewellery left to them by their dear old granny, and their wide screen TV, and someone has left them a small brown package in the middle of there new lounge cream deep pile, for the sake of saving a few hundred £. I even had one customer that had to move because his missus refused to go back. The misery of a burglary versus the money it costs for a proper alarm, it just never makes sense to me.
  2. You think we are as stupid as you are obviously
  3. Really, I think your original post was a deliberate attempt to pose as a genuine customer, yet according to your website you sell very similar security and you are based in Australia. I think you have been caught out and now clutching at straws. This is a security forum, its run by professional security experts, we already know more about you than you do.
  4. Eh pot kettle black. you started it with the bollox about how good Verisure is but your own email is linked to a website that has its own security company. This is a forum not a site for advertising your wears. But your little plan has backfired, anyone reading this topic will read it exactly as it is, and see straight through your recommendation and know exactly how Verisure operate. The irony is if you had come here and been honest you could have posted verisures details without any detriment
  5. And the fact that your email address is linked to an Australian company that supplies security systems exactly the same as Verisure would be nothing to do with your recommendation?
  6. I think you will find most professional companies offer everything Verisure can and more, and for a national company they have no accreditation, which in this day and age its the equivalent putting your money with Northern Rock
  7. 20p a day sounds reasonable to me
  8. Your not going to save much on £72 per annum?
  9. Swerve solar powered, and for that matter anything in B&Q, they do have a wide range of goods some good and some rubbish but most of the electronic security they sell can be found on ebay for half the price (not that I would suggest you buy your security from ebay either. ) There are wireless systems that have bellboxes that just require power, so the wire only needs to be run to the nearest power source and not all the way back to the control panel. I am not sure which brands do this as I do not sell many of the smaller systems so I am less familiar, but I am sure someone will here know.
  10. Unfortunately, you have fallen for the buy cheap buy twice. When you were in B&Q did you notice that they were not using the cheap tat they sell to protect their premises? I would advise that you take it back as it is less than a year old but as batteries are a consumable I think they could that you must have used all the battery power.
  11. The vulnerability is the communication between the devices and the control panel. One way wireless has been around for years and I am not aware of any incidences where one way has been compromised because of the way it works. Two way is better for sure in the same way that a 3ltr engine is better than a 900cc one. Just to add if your insurance company is insisting on a burglar alarm, then you should not be considering DIY in the firts place but two way would be the choice of most professional installers
  12. Two way does not do the above as the detectors only become live when the panel is armed or in walk test
  13. He's Berkshire
  14. With two way the detectors know when the panel is armed/disarmed so uses less battery power. The polling information between device and control is also better. Probably the most important bit is the fact that with one way there is a delay in detection operation after it has operated, this is to save battery power, the detector sees you move it reports it to the panel then it shuts down for 30 seconds, so in theory when you arm the system some of your detectors will not work for up to thirty seconds after the system is armed. Two way is more superior to one way but it will still work, and to say that is no good at all is like saying I have to get rid of my LCD TV and buy a LED one because LED uses less electricity, and the picture quality is better. So long as you can still watch ceebeebies does it really matter that much?
  15. But you cant one is cheaper than the other, in this day and age its the mat, but back when pirs first came out the pir was much more expensive. It is the same with 1 way versus 2 way one is cheaper than the other. I do understand the difference between 1 way and two way, but one could that really the OP should not be looking at wireless at all and should really have grade 3 anti-mask hard wired detectors with dual path web way monitoring and a smoke cloak. Alternately he could not bother with an alarm at all and employ a couple of ex SAS to guard his property 24/7. But my guess would be the cost outweighs the risk which is my point.
  16. Although, bad is not really a word I would use, lets put this into prospective. There are certain vulnerabilities to one way wireless, but with all security systems the total risk should be considered. If your property is likely to be of interest to professional burglars then this type of system would not be suitable. But I suspect if you had this sort of risk you would not be DIYing and certainly would not be asking questions about security on a public forum. Assuming that you just want to deter the local druggies/opportunist that would not have the first clue about security systems or their vulnerabilities then the powermax would be suitable.
  17. Hi and welcome Just so you know this is a forum, not a installer dating site, we do not encourage meeting each other here, under most circumstances I would say that it would be positively dangerous LOL!
  18. He eats properly as well, which is good, unlike my boy who only likes donkey poo and chips, Ive tried everything with him any tips?
  19. Yep any good company will be able to help assuming its not a lesucre. If a company is going to take responsibility for fixing it, then they should defaulting it and reprogramming it from scratch in the first place, otherwise they are just assuming that the losing company has programmed it correctly in the first place. Search here http://www.nsi.org.uk/directory/#topform or ssaibb.co.uk for proper companies in your area, phone a few you will find someone that can look after it properly, you will need a new battery and a service as well as the fault find, my money is on the battery as the root cause though
  20. Teaching your kids the essentials, I like it. Should keep him out of trouble
  21. It is easy to change the battery, the problem is, if the battery has been past its best for too long it may well have damaged the charging circuit. There is no easy way for you to check this without a multi meter and knowing what to look for. The battery will be 12v 2.1Ah or 3.4Ah either would be suitable replacements
  22. Its old but serviceable, they were cheaper panels but not as junky as many other panels out there. The panel being hot is another sign that the battery is gone the transformer is being overworked. ADE sold to Honeywell a few years back. How do you know the external sounder is dead? Though it does sound like its very old, still on the up side the wiring is all in place.
  23. Hi Adam 10-15 years Not much electricity, much less than your fridge Not sure what you mean by getting it removed people pay hundreds of £'s to have security in their house why would you want to remove it? ADE The detection and ancillaries would be compatible with many hard wired alarm systems available on the market today The keypad is saying that everything is fine, the noise you can hear from the main box is the transformer. I would advise that you get the system serviced, the person servicing it should be able to default the codes and show you how to reprogram a new one, depending on the last time it was serviced it may need a new battery, the fact that it is showing day and power is good, the transformer noise could be that the battery is drawing too much current, or it may just be a noisy transformer, hard to tell remotely. Alternately you could just ask someone to quote to update the system.
  24. Security systems wont stop people breaking in to steal stuff they will just detect them once they are in, and a professionally installed system is unlikely to be easily compromised. Ultimately it is down to risk, the type of burglar you are likely to get depends very much on the theft attractiveness of the stock or property. Why would an intelligent person risk getting caught for little reward, therefore in most cases your average house is unlikely to be targeted by anything other than opportunists and small time thief's. When it comes to high risk properties you will find stuff like smoke cloak, and anti mask detection, this makes it tricky for even the bloke who installed it to get around. Its not quite the same as it is on the telly
  25. You didnt say anything ....I did
