  1. In that case your problem is definitely the switch
  2. Thats the one good thing about buying half decent tech over the best tech, I was quite jealous of the new washer your missus got it looked really cool. My missuses Samsung is a couple of years old now so it will be another couple of years at least till we get a nice new flash one like yours. James's Miele will last another twenty years before he will need to upgrade to the latest tech machine
  3. I had to remove a panel the size of a small fridge, it was full of relays it was a long time ago when I was small and cannot remember what it was, I have an idea it was a AFA panel. Castle 1250, Bentley. Omega, Munford and White, Arun Elite, Racall Countess/Rascal, DA Ambassador or something or other. Been there got the tee shirt.
  4. fixed
  5. Optima is the model, the manufacturer is no longer. Is there no phone number on the external box? It could be a diy system so you may have to get the yellow pages out and try and find someone willing to come out to it.
  6. I saw Hull on the only fools and horses Christmas special if it helps?
  7. Do you remember when insurance companies had never heard of Dual Com? It is true that the grading was supposed to help, insurance companies were supposed to choose the grade but they dont have a scooby in most cases. But thats not really the standards fault is it? On another note how many times have you gone to quote a Fire Alarm and the customer hasnt had a FRA or worse the FRA doesnt give the grade of system required?
  8. Why so angry?? Now I see it completely different from you EN50131 was not that far off 4737, The Grading was an improvement, alarm confirmation was an improvement, yes there were many things wrong with 50131 PD6662 made it workable (which again brings me back to my point) but you could say the same about 4737. 50131 did mean that I could employ French German and Polish engineers without having to provide to much training as they were already familiar with 50131 and that the purpose of having a EN standard end of the day.
  9. So your saying that adding PD6662 was what made it workable ?
  10. There is room for improvement on everything but as you said nothing is perfect and never will be
  11. Things do change, sometimes for better sometimes for worse, and it was already not perfect but it was never unworkable, which was my point.
  12. It all depends on the risk, though the other thing to consider is current drop to the locks. The whole reason that access control systems are not made as ten, twenty, and thirty door controllers is because the manufacturer expects you to install the controller in close proximity to the door.
  13. I suppose you dont have that sort of thing oop north
  14. Not sure it will work the way you think it will, there are humans involved
  15. Until recently I was using them for all my outbuildings, they were fine. I have since wired to the main outbuilding because I wanted to put the NVR in it along with some other stuff and I would have had restricted bandwidth connecting remotely to the NVR
  16. So do you think that 4737 was better or worse ?
  17. Thats a matter of opinion LOL
  18. What importance does my nationality bear on this conversation.? I am trying to understand what you think is wrong with the standards
  19. So you are saying that because the people who currently decide the rules, do not understand your industry. But you cannot give an example of what exactly they are doing wrong?
  20. Whats your point? I already said there had to be rules, I asked if you think it would be happier if the rules came from someone you voted for?
  21. Remember its bad luck for me to see it before the wedding
  22. If it were forced upon us from someone you voted for you would be happier??
  23. I knew that, but why did the BS version need it was what I meant
  24. There is never ever going to be a perfect solution 4737 was far from perfect. There has to be rules otherwise you have anarchy and everyone just installs what they feel like and how they feel like doing it. I could never understand why we had to have stand by power for so long in the new EU standards, but then we had Seeboard doing essential works over a weekend on a industrial estate up the road and every burglar alarm was going off by early Sunday morning apart from the ones we installed. There is never going to be a perfect standard that looks out for every problem you may come across, because you cannot account for everything that may or may not happen.
