  1. Just a thought for the OP: Maybe the problem is that the existing detectors aren't compatible with the new alarm.
  2. Can't do much unless the OP comes back with more info.
  3. Can't with that sentiment & I hate response alarms.
  4. Can't find them listed on the bay mate & Amazon don't know if they'll ever have them back in stock, it's as you said very cheap and comes from China. Doubt there will be any backup provided, another case of you really do get what you pay for.
  5. Unfortunately it appears to be a system with one way signalling, which can unfortunately give you lots of false alarm problems. Did you realise that the the alarm can be silenced at the touch of one button ?. This is clearly explained on Amazon for all to see, so all Billy the burglar has to do is walk in & press the button and can then walk around your property at will.
  6. Remove the 2 alarm wires from each PIR circuit at the panel end, place a multimeter set to continuity across the 2 wires, make sure no one is moving near the PIR to trigger it. With the PIR powered, you should get a tone or very low resistance. Now get someone to walk in front of the PIR and the meter should show high resistance or open circuit, if it doesn't then you have a fault in the wiring or PIR. If the above is ok then you need to look at the panel.
  7. Totally agree with you. If anyone is offering free Security systems, I'd be running in the opposite direction.
  8. Don't know what system your refering to, maybe you could tell us without posting a link ?. Posting links is against site rules. Personally I'd be very wary of any home security system that is Free.
  9. Actually you could have either the 8 zone Veritas or the Euro Installed by a good local sparky. They're pretty simple installs or alternatively your local TLC could provide you with an ADE Optima or similar, this is another simple to install 8 zone panel. You can usually find business cards for a lot of the smaller local electrical contractors at the trade counter and the staff can usually point you in the direction of good local guys.
  10. Yep, you can do it easily. Just touch their logo / avatar within a post and it will take you to the members profile page. Touch the pm symbol to write and send them a message.
  11. The panel price is quite reasonable and includes a proximity tag, LCD keypad. You need to find someone like the yeti to do the job for you, not sure whether he covers your location though.
  12. Hi : No the Euro mini is a wired panel giving 8 to 10 zones. As for price: I can't answer that unfortunately, I've not worked up there for a long time so I'm out of touch with prices in your area. Prices down here are nothing like those that your going to be quoted. The Euro mini.
  13. Hope you were sitting down when you read that. If your looking to downsize the system, maybe you could look at something like a Pyronix euro mini. That would give you 10 zones using Double end of line wiring. I've installed several of these & so far found them to be a good reliable panel, that doesn't break the bank. Unfortunately your a bit too far away for me to offer to come and fit one for you.
  14. Yes mate we know this and ideally it would happen on every job, but unfortunately in the real world that's rarely the case. An awful lot of installers have never had any Training or Instruction on Safe isolation, Spur installation etc & I doubt they've ever seen the regs never mind opened them. The other thing is: They don't have the test equipment or knowledge of it's use to be able to do the tests & provide certificates.
  15. As Peter says, if you wanted to set the time as for example 30 seconds then you need to enter 03 as the time you set is multiplied by 10. The times allowed on both entry / exit are: 00 or 5 seconds to 99 or 990 seconds.
  16. Hi & welcome to the madhouse
  17. Agreed SWB: Even a competent DIY'er with a Multimeter should be able to find why there's no power to the keypad. As someone has been in the panel & we all know that the CPL doesn't have much room inside especially when fully loaded, it may be a simple case of a wire pulled out. Can't remember if they have a separate fuse for the RKP but doubt it, the manual is freely available so shouldn't be too much problem for a DIY fix.
  18. Take a look at Security warehouse, they stock just about everything you can think of for alarms.
  19. Was the keypad lit before the "technician" looked at it ?. As al said above, the cheapest option would be to just replace the panel and keypad. Something like an ADE Accenta G4 should fit the bill nicely & would be a good DIY swap out, saves paying multiple techs a callout fee.
  20. Yes mate agreed, the Electrician should have made sure that the cable was dead and safe. At the end of the day though, final responsibility for our own safety lies on our shoulders. It only takes a couple of minutes with an approved tester to make sure things are safe.
