Hi folks. Been in the fire alarm game for years but registered on here for advice on setting up my new (to me) home intruder system. Happy to take PMs on fire alarm issues as I hope to resolve my intruder woes via members here.

Morning all and thanks for the add. I am an electrician and hoping to learn more about alarms. Are there any courses or recognised entry routes into the trade? Noticing a bit of a crossover at times when I restore power to an aging alarm I installation and get the blame for dead batteries etc... ?

Hi all! In need of some help! We moved into our new home which had an Powermaster 10 ADT system installed. We were not left any codes or user manuals or anything for the system, and just assumed it was all turned off. Then a few weeks ago the beeping started. We gave ADT a call but they said because we were not paying members they couldn't help us and we would need to call an emergency electrician (on Christmas Eve - ugh). We managed to get in touch with the old owners who gave us the code they used for setting and unsetting the alarm and that stopped the beeping - for about 4 hours. But then it starts beeping again. We are able to silence the beeping with t…

HI - I'm being very cheeky and looking for a bit of advice concerning the alarm in a house that we have just moved into. I'm very competent in both electrics and electronics but unaware of the detail of security devices. The house is fitted with a Scantronics 9651 panel wired to 5 PIR's and an internal and external sounder with the basic 9930 keypad and is a really basic system installed by the builders about 14 years ago. When we bought the house I asked the vendors for the user master code and was told that they hadn't used the alarm for many years and had forgotten the codes. They would never have been given the engineer code. I don't think th ealrm has…

I worked at CGS fixing Tv's and other electronic tat on the bench when I was 19. Moved into CCTV when I was 24. Worked at Melford, CCTV Warehouse and Norbain. Then decided to join an alarm installation company for a while to experience what you guys kept moaning to me about when the tech support couldn't help you. Now I'm old. Still at an installation company. The work is quite a dull technical field and the interesting problems always throw themselves at you at 4pm on a Friday when you're 3 hours from home, it's raining and Tech support guy at **** is avoiding to answer his phone 'cos he wants to go home too. So I think I may need your crowd help so…
