Hi, I'm an oldie at 60 years. Been self employed in the security businees for 10 years after a career as a Govt investigator with special responsibility for surveillance including specifying for covert vehicles and electronic surveillance equipment. In answer to the guy who asked how long it takes to be fully trained the answer is the learning process never stops. The moment you think you know all the answers is the moment you become out of date technically.

banghead Hi there, one & all. This is my first posting to the forum, so please feel free to read or ignore anything I say... most people choose the latter. My name's Wayne and I'm a Security Officer / Guard (Not doorman / Bouncer). Part of my duty is to prevent or reduce the risk of unauthorised access to sites that I am assigned to... Sounds easier than it actually is. I live in a particularly hi-crime, openly-anarchistic part of Birmingham (England). On my own home, I've installed (don't laugh) a Veritas 8 alarm with SL Dialler, with quad and twin sound bombs inside the house and pirs & contacts in every room of the house. The alarm phones me directly if acti…

I have found this site quite interesting so far. I have recently moved from my job as a it systems engineer to starting up my own company installing cctv systems. I am planning to be using the geovision cards. I have plenty of knowledge on computers (hardware, software, networking etc) but have a lot to learn in the cctv world. I'm sure i'll be able to help with peoples pc related problems. And you lot can help me out if i get stuck on the cctv side of things. i'd be very interested in any comments on the geovision cards and their rivals.

I am new to the forum but have been kicking around the industry for about 10 years, installing maintaining and repairing intruder alarms. I have recently jumped the company ship and since last November gone self employed. This forum has had me in tears of laughter with the stories of drill bits through gas meters and musical bell boxes, I thought I might pass on an amusing tale that happened to me last week: During a maintenance visit for an elderly gentleman I discovered that his mains supply had an earth leakage fault. Upon trying to explain this to the customer, he proceeded in taking me outside and pointed to a peice of broken guttering. His concern was that this may …

Hi all. I can't believe I've surfed the web for as long as I have and only just found you guys. I'm Steve and I work for a small CCTV / Access Control company based near Preston. I have over 16 years in CCTV and most of that was with a company called Sensormatic. That company got bought out by Tyco / //.National Installer.// and after an uncomfortable period of trying to fit, I jumped ship. I have lots of manuals for stuff and would like to help wherever possible, just understand that sometimes I'll reply in 20 seconds and other times in 20 days. Anyway, I specialised in Sensormatic and American Dynamic products but now I'm into Pelco, D.M. and (don't swear now ) IMIG…
