Security & Safety

Hi there, one & all. This is my first posting to the forum, so please feel free to read or ignore anything I say... most people choose the latter.

My name's Wayne and I'm a Security Officer / Guard (Not doorman / Bouncer). Part of my duty is to prevent or reduce the risk of unauthorised access to sites that I am assigned to... Sounds easier than it actually is.

I live in a particularly hi-crime, openly-anarchistic part of Birmingham (England). On my own home, I've installed (don't laugh) a Veritas 8 alarm with SL Dialler, with quad and twin sound bombs inside the house and pirs & contacts in every room of the house. The alarm phones me directly if activated.

In addition, I've installed SIX cctv cameras, including one pan & tilt, hooked up to an //.National Installer.// Baseplex and a Ganz single channel DVR, recording 24/7

When my alarm isn't set, my three dogs let me know when someone's getting too close to my house - Best alarm / deterant a person can have but... they can't call for help!

As for SECURITY as in prevention... Locks on ALL the doors, including inside the house, locks and if neccesary grills on the glassing all helps keep intruders out.

As an installer, I'm an amatuer. As a Security / crime prevention officer, I always look at the environmental surroundings starting from the outside!

Most burglars are opportunists but often someone the victim knows... And yet it never ceases to amaze me how some people either don't set their alarms at all or enter the unset code while someone else, an outsider, is watching!

Security starts and ends with not-so common sense.
