Ok so that gives you another problem, the liability for any damages you cause to the new ladding. Another way of controlling the light would be to use a timer or Photocell sensor.

The timer inside your flat or the Photocell externally at whatever height you need. A photocell would set you back the princely sum of £8 to £10, minimal wiring and easy to install.

I'd be looking to bother the city authority to get the street lighting repaired as a first step.

I still reckon PIR bulkhead type fittings taken from some supply in the lobby area would be the way to go if you had too.

It's just pointless having spaghetti wiring up to the fourth floor, the lights going to do nothing from up there

I would also be careful if fitting a light that generates heat to any cladding.

You would probably be better off using a wireless pir in the required location then lighting from your apartment. But a cheap led light probably won't cut it and you will likly need a narrower light output.

Mounting to the cladding has issues anyway ie grenfel but a decent fixing will be another anyway

All the cheap ones normally fail quickly anyway 

 

Problem with these units IP rating on the sensor itself isn't very good 

 

I do am arf and put a plastic cover over them like a rain sheild works well

 

I want to try the bowls one day ......

Iirc someone on here posted about one they had that didn't have an earth etc

Loads of dangerous (ce marked) kit from the Internet, have a look on big Clive. Com he tears down a lot stuff. 

 

I'm not sure I'd want a DIY light on the outside of my apartment and if I was the landlord then I'd pursue for costs to repair the damage to the structure
