You shouldn't feel tied to ACE. If you own the panel a one off charge and you can switch.
The engineers code is a simple way to provide some security to them and there customers but also importantly yourself.

I showing battery fault that would be the control panel battery having low voltage or faulty.

Take a backup with Wintex and default the panel, try from there to rule out hardware issue.
Depending on the PowerMax model there are walk-through zones to do that.
Inter-Follow is one of them.
I don't think I would want the landing device to point down the stairs TBH, I would have a sensor on the landing and one in the hall.
