  1. a) The DVR is providing the pivot, put simply if the DVR is not connected there would be no access to the LAN. b) Port Forwarding is opening a port through the firewall from the WAN to LAN. Therefore (in a domestic setup) if that LAN device is compromised there are no other layers of protection from other LAN devices. c) Yes d) There are no extensive tests on any DVR/NVR? Most of these are on a P2P network which I would agree are highly likely to be more vulnerable. I mentioned my opinions of the flaws with P2P DVR's, a while back.
  2. It's mesh so as above you can use extra contacts to increase the signal security. Either Contacts or the new external detectors, would do. It will depend on the environment so best to bench test first
  3. Texecom travel all over the show, they provide support to other countries. So I doubt an island in the channel would be an issue?
  4. IMO this is going way off topic, but... You keep referring this to the same as "engineers codes", most seem to agree this is not the case. If any professional in the trade was fitting cheap DVR's shown as examples here, they won't be worried and neither will the customer. I don't know what you believe trade areas of the forum are for but there are no "engineers codes" shared on this site, trade or public.
  5. Meh, Visonic... The warning will be something else not the keyfob. Keyfobs should enroll easily with the ID, arm and disarm with them and will show networked.
  6. Depending on the standby time you could have the geny on during daylight hours. When work is complete recommend the batteries to be replaced. I recommended this same thing for a customer that was having a three phase supply installed to replace a single phase supply. The system worked overnight and recharged on the geny during the day, was over a weekend IIRC. Worked well, replaced the 8x 7Ah in the ACU's the Monday after they had finished. RE mags, should have a constant current however there is a higher inrush when energising.
  7. Hi you will need to make 5 posts before the PM system will open. Feel free to browse the forums and contribute to the site.
  8. I don't believe Scantronic will support multiple shunt resistors. So maybe two zones or different controls?
  9. Not any more, there was a thread a few months back about it. The domestic exemption only covers your property now.
  10. Welcome back. 1) Maybe consider the rear left corner instead? (position as if facing the front door) The sensor will be of no use if hiding behind a curtain. 2) Are you considering a keypad upstairs to arm the system at night? If not the sensor will need to be a walk-through zone anyway, could be front right adjacent the door but opposite the keypad. However, if you arm it upstairs another option is make the hall full alarm and leave as post 5.
  11. These require good knowledge of IT and Premier Panels to setup. Sounds like you have the panel or ComWifi incorrectly programmed. Best I can offer is start again and follow the manual for the ComWifi word for word, reading several times before starting. External Dynamic or Fixed IP will not matter if setup correctly.
  12. You shouldn't feel tied to ACE. If you own the panel a one off charge and you can switch. The engineers code is a simple way to provide some security to them and there customers but also importantly yourself. They need to know that only there engineers can program the system, to provide you with the best service possible. It's the same for most alarm companies if you switched.
  13. Codes in general are low tech, but why reinvent the wheel? Anything better would have a higher price point.
  14. Faulty battery, system overloaded or possibly faulty panel? You can't test a battery or charging circuit without a load on it.
  15. I am not trying to put you off but when flashing it's critical that it goes well or you will brick your panel. If you save a few quid but you brick a panel it's not a good cost saving exercise. Also the flasher has been the same for years, even the older less powerful panels had the same flasher separate. I can only speculate the reasons for this, maybe security or cost are some of the factors.
