  1. Well with an app enabled alarm system you can link the detectors and wireless outputs to switch on lights etc. I am not so sure how well that would work though, getting cosy in the lounge and the lights keep switching on when the pir detects movement, same with the bedrooms . I have Alexa in most of the rooms in my house and I use voice to switch stuff on and off. I swapped my light switch's for broadlink programmable switch's , and I have a couple of broadlink pro's around the house. My alarm switch's on the hall lights as courtesy when entering and leaving the house. and when I set or part set the alarm switch's all the light's in the house and the outbuildings off when armed. James has his back and front doors controlling his outside lighting the light comes on every time he opens the door. Oh my lights come on when the alarm goes off too.
  2. What would you want it to do though? It is possible to make anything smarter with Alexa using the right electronics, but I am not so sure that I would want her to disarm my alarm via voice just yet, even though she knows my voice she is far from infallible
  3. Unless the power was off for 10 hours or more the external sounder should not activate. The Battery should be changed every four years. The battery in the control panel should keep the panel working when the mains is off in other words you should be able to set the alarm in a power cut. If you are unsure if your meter is reading correctly check it against the 12v in the panel it should read 13.5 or there abouts. Try changing the battery in the meter that is the usual reason for low readings.
  4. But this guy is not an engineer, he is a diyer you should not be advising someone who is not familiar with the product to start meddling inside a live panel!! its bloody dangerous. At college you would be advised never to open a panel without isolating the mains first. I know that engineers do but they do it under their own risk.
  5. Are you? I would always recommend that the mains is isolated before the panel is opened as I would expect any competent engineer to recommend there are live terminals on the transformer and the psu
  6. No the tamper has nothing to do with it, mains electricity is dangerous
  7. NO!!!! diss the mains at the spur before opening the panel
  8. There is no software available to enable you to view this panel remotely, it was made long before smartphones were invented
  9. II believe you are correct, I am not that familiar with Scanny anymore but I am sure someone posted here that the newer rkp's are compatible
  10. Before otherwise it will sound as soon as you power down. It will sound when you try to disconnect it but not for so long
  11. The external sounder should start sounding on its own battery if you fully down power the panel. I say should that is what it is supposed to do. So You really need to start at the external sounder, go outside and disconnect that first, otherwise you will upset your neighbors
  12. They must be busy round your way
  13. I wouldnt do that without a working keypad
  14. You're right a blank keypad is not nessacarily going to be a faulty keypad. With no way of shutting the alarm up if you make a wrong move, I am not sure that I would be wanting to DIY that.
  15. At least the cheap and cheerful numpties are getting a taste of their own medicine now

  20. On my last house I purchased a couple of cheap halogen light sets for the kitchen from B&Q, I ended up only using one of them. They only cost a tenner, so I thought I might get £5.00 plus postage for the it on Ebay, to my surprise I got £20.00 plus postage. I couldnt understand it the were still £10.00 in B&Q, now I know why thanks Steve.
