Using the in out method will stop the line from being interrupted by picking up the phone, in reality I have never known a burglar to pick up the phone, normally they just cut the phone line outside

Err its only a guess but I think you need to connect the two line terminals to pins 2 and 5 of the wall jack. Or is that too easy? Sorry if I misunderstood the question
