Id agree with that. When i was walking around the college with my daughter i was impressed on how colleges were trying to attract the right students, for all the right reasons. The same for my son. I was not so impressed withe the universities, it did seem all about the money rather than all about what you could learn, some worse than others selling the gym, bar and fun facilities, over the education. Chi unni reckoned if you did their music or drama degree you could be guaranteed a job on the cruise ships, woopee doo

New External Sounder For Use With Paragon Plus Panel (wired)
PeterJames replied to Polybear's topic in !!..DIY Installers..!!
Hi Brian Welcome, any branded sounder will be suitable replacements, but the terminology used between brands is normally different. The paragon is an old panel and was made before Pyronix bought out Castle and so its likely the older panels will have different terminology then later products -
We cant give out engineer manuals however obsolete the panel is

Theres clones of everything in China they even clone there own stuff Dahua and Hik clones available, the strange thing is most Chinese dont buy the clones, the tat gets sold though.

If I didnt know better, Id say he raided our skip when we moved out of Worthing to Storrington. It broke my heart seeing all that new in boxes shite going in the skip. But you cant hold onto everything just in case, and in any case Id much rather supply a customer a current product. I could of gone the ebay route I suppose but time and energy

Is Risco Agility 3 rubbish ? - Fix or throw away ?
PeterJames replied to kraftphone's topic in !!..DIY Installers..!!
There are people out there that swear by Risco, but I cant help feeling thats because its cheap, and many installers wont touch it. Its not the easiest to work on and its not got the best reliability reputation. We would not take one over either, but there are people that will just make sure that they install them rather than just want to take it over for the sake of it. -

My return to the world of security alarms
PeterJames replied to UKAlarmGuy's topic in Introduce Yourself
Schools letting kids identify as what they like in fear of discrimination, thats a tricky one. Someones bound to find a way to bend the rules in their favor on that one. Example: Schools in Brighton would not let boys wear shorts because its not part of the uniform so the boys in protest wore skirts. The school could not send them home because it is part of the uniform and they cannot discriminate on sex. My take, I can see no valid reason as to why shorts could not be added as part of the uniform, if the school dictated the type, colour, length etc in line with their uniform colours. I can see that letting kids identify as whatever they want could end in tears but I dont have an answer for it. -
it wont hurt for you to try the code you have and the default code before yu get up the ladder. If it works, you can use it to stop the internal noise when you start working on the external sounder

Cool analogy Im gonna use that. Only this morning I was trying to convince a customer exactly this. An old system is kept serviced is fine, all the while the customer doesnt need to make any changes. In my instance he had to change from digi to LAN coms. I tried to expain that its not worth bolting on kit to an old panel, because when the old panel dies you end up spend twice. Once on the bolt on, then on the whole upgrade. If you can afford it its always better to go for the upgrade in the first place.

Your employer should have barriers and gates down on his efficacy insurance otherwise you could be in trouble if you do make a mistake. Force measuring equipment is fairly important especially if the gate your servicing is on a gradient. though as a rule you should be testing force regardless. Servicing depends on the gate/barrier type of motor etc how many ground loops etc etc. You also need to take into account how many times you can operate the gate in short succession testing is all very well but on the same token you dont want to burn the motor out so even small gates can take ten minutes.

Not everyone in this industry is a petty criminal but I always find it strange when one of my guys wants a new alarm for his new house and he buys everything but the cable from me. Im no angel so I turn a blind eye but I never close my eyes completely
-
Most gate and barrier suppliers will point you in the right direction for training. LinkCare I think even run their own training courses. Not really saving money by sending people that dont know what they are doing. Id rather put round pegs in round holes. But most gate and barrier companies seem to be too busy with their own stuff to want to sub for anyone else nowadays. Our guys are okay on service and maint and can install, but we regularly sub the install work out its cheaper to get someone that does it everyday to do it in the long run.

My headmaster told me I was only good for road sweeping or dustman (If he could see me now!) I went to technical college, I wanted to do electronics but I didnt have the math so I did car mechanics and took the math as a secondary, passed and then moved from mechanics to electronics. I also went to night school (paid for by me) and I have always been able to do stuff because I have common sense which generally is not what they teach

Yeah thats how the uni sells it as well. I do understand that the world doesnt owe anyone anything and if the government gives you something you should be looking to pay it back. Daves example is a good one though his school mate went to uni and now he is a Doctor in Singapore so is he paying his back? Yep it is like a Mortgage or extra tax if you want to use moneysavingsexperts view. My view is if its money you owe someone its a debt, and all the while the £ is devaluing (as it does every year) it wont be long till those perceived as on low pay will be paying their debts back.
-
My next door neighbour at my old house went to uni and ended up working there. My son is just about to graduate but isnt looking to work in the industry he graduated in. I hope that that may change and I am sure he will make use of his £50k debt degree eventually. He is looking to work for himself selling stuff.

When you press the buttons can you hear them beeping ? If the usual code is not working and the factory code is not working then its probably died. The link is the the left of the LEDs the other side of the NVM chip
-
So are you saying that it wont silence when you enter the code? Try the factory code 1234 0123 1111 its one of those (it must be 30 years since I programmed a rascal)
-
I am not even sure why you came here? you obviously know better than we do. Defaulting the panel back to factory settings will not fix your problem, it will just give you another one,you will need to re-program it. So ill ask one more time what is it that not working on your panel? What lights are on?

Where do I turn for servicing?
PeterJames replied to Charlottelou12's topic in General Security & Fire Queries
Is there no phone number on the outside box? If not I would start by phoning the mobile you have and asking if they are the installer. If no answer then I would recommend searchin for a accredited company on the NSI or ssiab website you can search using your postcode
