Whats wrong with Yale?
On a two way system the detectors and control panel communicate with each other, the detector knows when the system is armed therefore they dont transmit detected movement when the system is unset. Two way control panels can also randomly pole the detection and if it does not receive a reply it knows it is missing. Some one way systems do have poling but this is initiated by the detector and the control panel is expecting a pole from each of the detectors within a set time period normally 24 or 12 hours. Sometimes with one way systems two detectors pole at the same time which makes the panel think that it is being compromised, or it just does not recognise the poling and goes into pole failure. I dont believe the Yale system poles at all, meaning that the panel would not know at all if the detector was missing.

Forum Trade Application
Please read the Do's and Don'ts marked in red if you cant be bothered with these rules we wont be bothered to vet you. Currently as a standard member you can only see/view about 50% of the forums in our community, the rest is only view-able upon being given Trade access which is not granted to every member that applies. We try to do the best to vet each new applicant to try and ensure they are actually in the trade, so firstly if you object to this please do not apply, secondly you should appreciate that this process takes time, so don't apply if your not prepared to wait (up to a few weeks sometimes) for approval. We vet active members 1st so get posting to jump the queue. You join on the understanding that what goes on in the trade forums stays in the trade forums, this is an area where views are freely expressed and the occasional heated debate may occur. We have a vast resource of equipment manuals, information and advice, which is entirely generated by our trade members efforts on an unpaid basis. Although we appreciate not everyone will have additional information to provide we still expect discussion and input or a regular basis from all trade members. Periodically we may downgrade trade members who (in our sole opinion) either do not visit often enough or who post very infrequently. Read Carefully: APPLICATIONS THAT DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE BELOW WILL BE IGNORED · DO NOT apply for trade membership/access unless you are already a forum member. · DO NOT apply if you are not active in the Fire/Security/CCTV/Access control Industry · DO NOT apply if you have not already made a minimum of 5 posts on the forum · DO post in the public forums while awaiting vetting as this may help speed up the vetting process. · DO NOT apply for trade membership/access unless you have made 5 or more posts. I thought there was a reason James used CEO over MD, I just didnt want to appear stupid by asking what that reason was. Now I see that you also dont see any particular reason, I dont feel so stupid for asking.

You probably didnt mean to come across this way, but I though the above comment was a bit rude James, Andy gives up his time FOC here I think we should be grateful for what we get. I agree it is important but his part is to tell us there is a problem, not necessarily give us all the answers as well.

Cheap Dvr Leaves Your Network Vulnerable To Attack
See post 31, I would have agreed with you on this Rich, its not about hiding it from the public, its about giving spotty nerdy kids ideas. The point is there are plenty of highly skilled people out there extracting money from peoples bank accounts right now by simply sending them an email with an attachment. But not everyone is daft enough to open an email attachment from someone they have never heard of. Its only a matter of time before the highly skilled suss that you can get on a network via a DVR. I am not that particularly skilled but I bet I could do it (Not that I ever would )

Cheap Dvr Leaves Your Network Vulnerable To Attack
Lets look at the facts here potentially a system that we have sold and installed could allow some clever nerdy spotty oik in his bedroom to hack into our customers bank account and withdraw money un noticed, with no chance of anyone finding out it was him? I think this is unlikely but not impossible. Some clever hacker could possibly do it though, the risk of getting caught is high but so is the potential reward. I think there is a duty of care, potentially a cheap DVR not set up properly is like a trojan horse. The problem as I see it is that Andy has pointed out this fact to us, by rights we should be in the very least informing customers of the potential threat, and advising that they should put there CCTV system on its own VPN. Those of us that fit CCTV thats not already on a VPN.

Cheap Dvr Leaves Your Network Vulnerable To Attack
I get 100s of emails every week from scammers trying to get me to open attachments so that they can sneak onto my network, it wont be long until they sus there is an easier way to get peoples networks. Mind you they cant log into my bank without a pin sentry my card and pin number, they cant log into my inland revenue account without giving a stool and blood sample (they are welcome to pay my tax return anyway) they cant get any sensitive information from my computer because I just do nerdy stuff with it. They could download my movies from my home server, I think they would get board looking round my world though

Ademco Accord 8 Alarm Problem....please Help!
The problem is as soon as you re-power the system, or fit the new battery, it will start to sound and if you dont know the user code you have no way of stopping it. The Accord is fairly old and if I remember correctly the codes on their own cannot be defaulted . Theretofore the system will need to be defaulted completely and reprogrammed.

Ademco Accord 8 Alarm Problem....please Help!
Unless you know the user code I would not advise you touch any of it, as its designed not to be sabotaged. But if you diss the external sounder then down power the mains to the internal panel you will achieve any immediate problems. If you decide then you would like to get it up and running then I would suggest you call an installer

Ademco Accord 8 Alarm Problem....please Help!
Another thing to bear in mind if you have a power problem when your on holiday, the council will call one of us out to disarm the system and then send you a bill for their time and the alarm co. Funnily we are discussing this very subject in the trade forums. But because the poor home owners alarm was ringing internally they will get three bills one for the locksmith one for the alarm co and the third from the environmental dept. Stitch in time, save bigger bills
