New system with mobile phone alert

Well they are, you couldn't swap without having to code to the new vehicle. I have the Carly software for my car and have coded in various functions. Not something I think Joe public would do but the information is readily available on the www. The software and lead were reasonably priced iirc.

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

Anyway what alarm am I buying tomorrow?

Try the Honeywell Galaxy or Texecom panels.  The system price will be much less than £500, but will not be as little as £50.  The Galaxy G2-12 based system can cost as little as £150 and Ethernet can be added for £50 to £200 depending on the module.  Some parts of these systems are priced reasonably.

Add detection, bell, cable, internal sounder, battery, and VAT and you still wont have much change from £500 though.

Honeywell G2-12 panel, honeywell detectors, texecom sounder. Never a glitch.

Only seen one g2-12 panel fail doa and that was because the installers screwdriver spun across the pcb ripping off a couple of resistors along the way.
