Like we went over last time if you had something of such value that required protection by a grade 4 alarm then the people privy to the knowledge of what you have is very, very limited. The whole grade 4 aspect is designed to stop the level of thief as described in grade 1/2 from making any real headway into the system/building without creating havoc and causing a signal to be sent.

What is the point of any alarm system when a gun in the small of someones back will open every door you need?

Why do you think the smash and grab robbery's up here in the last few months have been during the day whilst the place was open? Alarms no good to anyone if the bugger has been set bar a PA.

As much as I hate insurers the risks serve as a general guideline. An alarm system is taken in to account as part of the general insurance scheme.

So someone who is willing to get a gun and take a hostage wouldn't be willing to just pay a geek a couple of grand and avoid the whole guns and threat to life thing?

I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:

No there isn't under the standards but id suggest there was under the RA. The problem is the RA is subjective. I might say arm disarm from arc, another RA might say Grade 2 with a keyswitch. Neither is 'non compliant' as it currently stands. That's why we have the 'grade 2 that will do' mentality

its a strange one this..cg is some joe public with a hobby/healthy interest in defeating alarms and everyone seem to bend over backwards to help..granted the lad is clever but should he be getting so much help? no one knows who he is really..all in public too..just a thought

They would be worried the geek would rape them of every penny somehow.

& if this happened the geek would be cruzing the streets in a cool set off wheels like a celeb.....

unfortunately the celeb is Stephen Hawking & they'll only get the cool chair if they survive the operation to remove the bullet wedged in their spine
