Hello - New Company - New Career

Featured Replies

Hi All,

This is just a quickie to introduce ourselves:

I have been running a Successful car audio & Security Company in Sussex for the last 7 years, having decided to risk going on my own after working for another company for 10 years, but the decision has come to diversify and take up a new challenge, and 'slight' career change.

The change is not a decision to be taken lightly, having built up a very respectful reputation in the car audio industry and producing 5 national car audio champions every year for the last 5 years, but needs must. And as car manufactures are giving away hands free phone kits, reversing sensors, DAB radio with almost every new car, we are struggling to find work. In 5 years time we can see the car audio industry flooded with second hand cars already fitted with some of the equipment we have been specialising in for years. Then don't even get me started on eBay.

You guys on the other hand have it good and bad. You are in a growth industry when people are wanting more and more to protect their assets or are being forced to by their insurance companies.

You have a great practice of industry standards set in stone (something the aftermarket car accessories industry needs having some of the installations I have you would know why!),

So, I have set up Highdown Security Ltd, to hopefully see me into retirement (20 years to go!!). We are only a few weeks away from our NSI silver accreditation inspection, (I’m sh!!!!ing myself) but I am fortunate to have found a young enthusiastic engineer to guide and train me; who has been in the industry specialising in Fire for 7 years.

BUT, I COULD REALLY USE THE HELP OF A MENTOR,

Or someone who is willing to answer the silly questions regarding running the business,

What mark up to charge on products?

How much should we charge for out of hours call outs?

Which suppliers offer the best prices and how to get them?

How much to charge for service contracts?

You get the idea!

Anyway, here's to a new business venture, a prosperous 2013 and a Merry Christmas to everyone on the forum.

2. How much should we charge for out of hours call outs?

3. Which suppliers offer the best prices and how to get them?

3. depends what your buying

4. £100.00

howver as always you'd be better off working out your own costings

re costings you need to work them out. ie what do you need to pay your engineer to be on call and how much per call then what margin you need.
