I'd love to know! I turned the router off for 10 mins but that didn't make it fail.

    All done via the keypad.

The reporting time is defaulted to 15mins, so when you have first set it up it might not of registered the ip address with texecom for 15mins

IVe been  taking old panels home and familiarising myself with programming .

Now so far ive learnt about

    1. Normally open and close circuits

    2. End of line and double end of line and how it's crucial for future servicing

3 . Zone doubling ( especially on older paradox panels)

4 basic cctv setups ,  and diagnosing faults

5 building control panels  ( concept panels utilising my drill for that perfect twist and boot lacing ) all that good stuff

    .

I would ignore the training courses as you have probably learnt more than they will teach you, going from what you have said above.

Taken the panels home and learning them is the best way.

Drill for the perfect twist.............A big no, but i know other that do it.

BTW confirmation predates EN introduction by more than 10 years in some cases.

We was using confirmation a long time ago before EN on abacus panels, even the old gardtec 800 had alarm B on it. What really annoyed me was our main panel at the time was the abacus which used pin 5 on the plug on, then for EN somebody decided it should be pin 7. The plug on pins where a industry standard format by Scantronic and other panel manufactures adopted the same foot print which in them days the pins were not programmable so a move from 5 to 7 was a PITA.

But thats not really the standards fault is it?

On another note how many times have you gone to quote a Fire Alarm and the customer hasnt had a FRA or worse the FRA doesnt give the grade of system required?

Both points valid, but the standards state a system has to be installed to a grade and they insurance companies know little about the grades of systems and i as the designer have to carry out a risk assessment  which i have no formal quals for and the insurance company accepts the spec.

Shouldn't the insurance companies be doing the risk assessments and passing what they require to us?

Should have put, as per Pete's post.

Insurers who call the shots on what's 'approved'.

Everybody says its down to the insurance company's, they don't have that much input on the standards they copy and paste from BSIA guidelines, and they nearly always spec grade 4 signalling as its the only thing they know.

All the insurance company's i have dealt recently, quote Redcare or dualcom, when asked which redcare or dualcom as there are different versions they just come back with silence.

Zone omit not normally allowed due to insurance policy.

    Its down to the company.

omit signal must be sent to ARC if the system rearms and force omits a circuit, but its open to interpretation, but send omit if any circuit is omitted by user.

if you want your voice heard get involved. Not involved and moaning is like not registering to vote. You have no voice and have to leave it to those that do have one

Join the BSIA ? isnt there a membership to pay

    Voting is free

  8. I think the security industry needs to vote

    Quote

UK participation in the development and maintenance of voluntary industry standards by CEN and CENELEC for use across the European single market is an essential element of the UK’s relationship with our European partners. The CEN and CENELEC single standard model, with identical adoption of European standards across 33 countries and the withdrawal of conflicting national standards, facilitates market access and simplifies the market structure across Europe.

    Load of ****

I think you should have a choice and no have it pushed on you by the BSIA

Its only a matter of time before someone decides to target the Yale systems with the equipment suggested.

Cant see it happening for a couple of reason's

    1) Most yale alarms are on houses that couldn't afford a proper Grade2X system, that why they have purchased a DIY kit.

    2) If you have the equipment needed and the know how, then your probably all ready employed in the IT / electronics field on £30K + so why would you want to target the people in 1.

Also if the Yale alarms are installed DIY and not covered by a maintenance contract by a Co for the NSI or SSAIB firm, the insurance Co treats the premises as if it hasn't got an alarm (no discounts)

I would of thought you could. I would assume it meets 6662 anyway. And you could self certify assuming it does

Its doesn't meet PD6662, but it does EN50131

So i cant use them, who pushed for PD6662 ?

  11. 30 minutes ago, james.wilson said:

rich that isn't the case. The manufactures don't want pd6662 and are trying to get rid of it. But other people, myself included want it but not for protectionism

Why cant i use Satel panels? they can make them conform to BS8243 and they conform to various EN but they cant be used for install in the UK, just checked and they are Graded.

    http://www.satel.pl/download/info/MD-DANE.TECH.EN-EX.pdf

  12. We dont work to EN50131, we work to PD662 which calls up EN50131 and other British standards, the security industry has never been fully EU. They adopted the standards they wanted then introduce PD6662 to cover what the UK manufactures wanted.

There are some great panels and equipment in Europe, but we cant use them in the UK. Most of the UK panel makers sit on the boards discussing the standards and then write things in to PD6662 to protect their market place.

If we stay in the EU the we should be able to buy panels that are EU approved, always wanted to use Satel which I can't so i am pushed towards a UK panel.
