recently purchased some 100m alarm cable reels, in  4, 6 and 6 core.

 

Has anyone had problems with cables recently? the quality is so poor, the outer insulation will not strip easily, and the inner cores are so fine, that when you manage to strip them, the conductor is so fine it will not push into an open connector on a panel or even connector strip. To add insult to injury the colours are way off, some had no yellow, but grey/white, the green so dark it looks like black, I told the supplier but said no one else has commented.

I know I am getting older!

What cable does anyone recommend?

It's cheap CCA Type 3 garbage, you get what you pay for.

Only use CQR pro here.

Have to agree with SWB: it might be dearer than some but never had any problems with CQR cable & I like to fit once, not have to replace cheap cables.

Also I wouldn't bother with 4 or 6 any more. Much easier to standardise on 8C, spare cores can always be useful.

Agreed cca is budget stuff I'd only use copper myself

I normally keep 6 and 8 core, 6 for contacts & 8 for everything else.

The CCA SW sell cqr isnt bad tho good for house bashing 

It's the best I could find for the cost.

can I buy your "cut lengths" of 8 core cqr in 100m lenghts

 

as strangely its nearly 4p per meter cheaper than a coil
