Tell me if I'm wrong but 16ch is 400fps all in and the 8/9 channel is 225fps. So if i only used 8 channels then the 16ch would record at better fps

Not necessarily, depends if the DVR will allow you to allocate all available frame rate to the 8 channels, not all do, not sure about the sammy though.

also depends on the number of chips and type of capture chips. While it may be able to do 25fps on a single camera, it cant achieve 7.5 fps if a chip is doing 4 cameras. More like 3. due to the way the chip switches between inputs and how well synced the cameras are. SOme use framestores to mitigate this mind

I dont thik the HD500 i have will control the PTZ but I believe the 316 will. After having a good play with the mitsi I also believe that will also control the PTZ.

I suppose I'm just trying to build a decent system that wont be let down by the DVR.

My HD500 only has 2x186GB. Which I can't seem to increase I have 2 x 500gb HDD but on installing them it only formatted 186 GB on each and wouldnt do anymore.

The Mitsi seems to have more expandability (read easier) and easier backup. But doesn't do things as nice or as quick as the HD500 (ie no thumbnail lookup)

The samsung on paper looks like it does everything but is a big ol chunk of money to throw at a houshold system. I could keep the hd500 the mitsi and buy the 2nd hand 316 and still have change. So it looks like ruling that one out.

My concern over he 316 is A:fps and B: getting the data off.

I have read about using a plextor drive. Is that just a normal USB plextor drive

Edit:

I wrote the above 4 hrs ago but didnt hit submit.

@Arfur

cheers pal.

Thats exactly the kind of answer I was after.

The prob witht he hd500 is the only way to backup is via a dvd/cdr which I have not managed to find yet. The later 316 has usb connectivity so SHOULD be easier.

I have managed to download a program from mitsi that means I can now control all from a pc. So the need for the HD316 may be gone.

I have just upgraded the HDD in the mitsubishi to 1TB

It appears that the max HDD stating in user manuals points to the max HDD currently available. The mitsi is supposed to be only 500gb. But it is now seeing snd showing 1000gb. May try a 2TB as I need a kit to upgrade to 2xHDD.

Thanks so far guys.

@Arfur again

I did try a 2nd edit but ran outa time.

The camera location I thought was ok. But was let down by illumination. But i hope to have that sorted asap with the addition of the iR devices in previous post.

Hi Matty,

we all learn somewhere lo!

i'm really pleased and relieved you understand my intent is to help, not in any way to belittle you.

to my mind your 1t post seemed you effectively opened a box and took al the goodies, took them all out and can't decide which ones to work with, so now i want you to think in a more straight line, have set out a response to aid you marshal your thoughts.

Cameras.

looking at the eneo's (model?) most have a high spec if positioned and set up correctly they should do a good job.

PTZ.

you need to really think hard about this, PTZ is fine if someone is looking at it 24/7, scare the **** out of thieves seeing the BP Select garage ones bombing about the forecourt pumps and zooming all over the place very impressive - erm! NOT!

as example, with the last incident if you had this unit working at the time, trust me searching through several hours of such crazy video to find the culprit in a 20 second sement from a touring PTZ footage is no great fun to do, if you do go this rout my best advice - is have a special none splash bucket handy or buy some quells :)

unless you use detection to pull the camera to certain zone on movement, its often more practical and sensible to cover the area with fixed cameras, you have the extra ports that would also allow your existing DVR to be retained.

Illumination

i could not see if they are IR sensitive, so fitting IR lamps may not help much if not, others will i'm sure confirm.

IR v White lighting.

IR lighting is very in 'vogue' suggesting secret squirrel advantages but why? often it is not the best option unless you need covert observation. very few cameras offer colour images in IR illumination (switching to monochrome) while many more will offer colour if using white or flood lights. as this is a domestic requirement imo white lighting may be the better idea, as long as it won't cause annoyance to others (li.e. light pollution).

Floods are far cheaper than IR per lamp, but IR's often run on low voltages so cheaper to install the cables, the cameras you have may work well on a simple 60 watt bulb in a tough bulk head housing.

DVRs

been looking up your DVR's as i don't know any of them (while stupid - i'm honest at least))

http://www.cctvproducts.com/panwjavdigha.html

so seems to me your current DVR uses an add on controller which will have the PTZ hand controller i'd expect "Optional remote controller; WV-CU50 is available for easy operation.".

also it says Triplex mode (Live / Recording / Playback) so access via your network would assume allow PTZ control, a most support Pelco (that means just about any PTZ make).

it don't agree about hard drive size limitations so i'd have an email of to their tech help on that.

the Mitz

http://www.info4security.com/story.asp?storycode=3090656

the review praises the build and moans at the engineers menus in a way suggest they are a pia, by saying once set up you would unlikely need to adjust, tbh that's the same for most DVRs if done by someone who really knows their onions.

all three you mention are high priced machines, if this was a new install to my mind all would be cynical overkill to sell for most houses, but as you already have the kit it makes little sense as to why not use one of the. i comment here given the value, also makes little sense not to have an experienced CCTv engineer to tweek the settings to perfection on what ever you end up using (would you tune a Veron performance Car or take it to a specialists?).

post your town i'd bet someone in here would offer to aid you for a reasonable fee, ask them fist for am estimate.

fully agree, most of the ptz systems we take over, are poorly implimented and only installed cos the client wanted them. PPZ has huge implications and is rarly designed cxorrectly

just to add,

i'd expect backup to you PC over LAN would be another facility on all three units, so you locked location should not be an issue (ensure good venting).

with my clients, even on lower end units, i recommend the LAN methods as it's far easier to teach, and they are in a more of familiar environment, if you connect it to your network and type in its IP address it may download the activex files from the DVR needed to use it remotely instead of using it's own viewer program

fully agree, ............................

steady on James,

i must be loosing my touch as that's twice within a month!

Thanks Guys, I do know 2 CCTV installers but wanted some wider knowledge before going to see them.

The HD500 wont back up video over lan only still pics. The Mitsi now I'm getting to grips with is not actually that bad but there are certainly parts I have no Idea what they mean. The pana have a nice thumbnail look that takes less than 5 mins to go through 24 hrs of footage. Only really helpfull if looking for changes.

I will email Pana tech and see if there is a workaround or something to increase HDD

It is time to pull in the pros.

I live in a residential street and I dont have a lamp standard near my house which means mine and my neighbours are pretty dark so light pollution may be a problem. But i suppose PIR Floods wouldnt be.

Were also looking at secondry security. Ie having the drive covered in gravel as oppesed to tarmac like now.

Again thanks for the help really appreciate it.

Ps. the mitsi cost me just over £200. so a high end machine for china import rubbish prices.

If you go for floods get ones with a chime wiich the receiiver plug in but link by radio. Dearer but really good kit and they chime durimg the day on movement, being cheaper and more effevtive than gravel.

trust me "high end" ain't a few hundred pounds !

since you appear to have fallen out with somebody enough to have vandalism done to cars at 2 sites.

I suspect physical security in the form of gates, fences, walls might be better than gravel ?

External lighting in the form of GJD system is more the thing you need rather than "Diy Shed" tat pir lamps
