I'm not sure what you mean about the I/O being unmonitored, could you elaborate please?

There are not many installers here that trust Pyronix to prop a door open so lots of us wont know if the fuses are monitored integral or glass.

I assume that it the fuses were glass its the first thing you would have checked. By your answer we can assume that the fuses are not monitored.

If its an integral fuse then you need to down power the system mains and battery so that the fuse can reset.

Other than that who knows? Wiring into the zone circuit should not effect the output circuits.

The next place to start is to disconnect all the sounders test them individually and then add them back on to the panel and test them.

    Hi

I have recently moved into a property in Scotland which seems to have one of these.

It was marketed as being non- operational and essentially isn’t. No control panel, PIRs or evidence of a system apart from a few old door contact switches on the conservatory and garage door, but, the main panel under the stairs as in this photo is present and is still clicking away, chirping and in the evenings sounds like a siren is being emitted. It’s not an actual  loud sound. It’s as if another house has an alarm activated a few streets away. It’s very quiet but I heard it almost straight away in the kitchen when moving in and thought it was one of the kids toys in a box somewhere.

The previous owner states it was de-activated c1995 when she moved into the house. But it’s clearly still plumbed in and chirping away.

What should I do with it?

Its a bit difficult to advise, if you,re brave you can remove the fuse in the spur to the right open the panel and dis the battery. But if there is an external sounder with a battery in it you may be opening a can of worms. That panel was installed pre bell timers so the external sounder could ring indefinitely. If your not so brave call an alarm company to decommission it properly or replace it with something suitable

Will check when I get home tomorrow. Is that because Pyronix is owned by Hikvison now?

Had various panels of theirs, the last was the 832 matrix which think was Pyronix.

Mainly because most of us have been in this industry long enough to remember Pyronix in the early days and wont trust Pyronix to prop a door open, but thats a historic thing rather than anything they produce nowadays. They were really poor then they purchased Castle 2003 ish and they improved a little.

But I dont think any of the main contributors here touch Pyronix mainly because how poor the original products were to begin with. Most installers like to stick with the one brand if they can,  as training engineers on hundreds of other panels out there is a PITA all brands have their own way of doing things and programming and even wording making it a nightmare for new engineers just starting out.

My school was rough as toast, we even made it into the local papers for it being shit and students smoking in class. Fantastic buildings, housed 1400 pupils and right in the middle of a large park but full of spastics. It was closed down and repurposed 2 years after I left.

I'm sure a few ended up inside, one was a paedo but I didn't really stay in touch with more than 2-3 as I went to college instead of the dole or down t'pit.

Id agree with that. When i was walking around the college with my daughter i was impressed on how colleges were trying to attract the right students, for all the right reasons. The same for my son. I was not so impressed withe the universities, it did seem all about the money rather than all about what you could learn, some worse than others selling the gym, bar and fun facilities, over the education. Chi unni reckoned if you did their music or drama degree you could be guaranteed a job on the cruise ships, woopee doo

If I didnt know better, Id say he raided our skip when we moved out of Worthing to Storrington. It broke my heart seeing all that new in boxes shite going in the skip. But you cant hold onto everything just in case, and in any case Id much rather supply a customer a current product. I could of gone the ebay route I suppose but time and energy

  7. There are people out there that swear by Risco, but I cant help feeling thats because its cheap, and many installers wont touch it.

Its not the easiest to work on and its not got the best reliability reputation. We would not take one over either, but there are people that will just make sure that they install them rather than just want to take it over for the sake of it.

Schools letting kids identify as what they like in fear of discrimination, thats a tricky one. Someones bound to find a way to bend the rules in their favor on that one.

Example: Schools in Brighton would not let boys wear shorts because its not part of the uniform so the boys in protest wore skirts. The school could not send them home because it is part of the uniform and they cannot discriminate on sex.

My take, I can see no valid reason as to why shorts could not be added as part of the uniform, if the school dictated the type, colour, length etc in line with their uniform colours. I can see that letting kids identify as whatever they want could end in tears but I dont have an answer for it.

do you seen many in daily use ?

Cool analogy Im gonna use that.

Only this morning I was trying to convince a customer exactly this. An old system is kept serviced is fine, all the while the customer doesnt need to make any changes. In my instance he had to change from digi to LAN coms. I tried to expain that its not worth bolting on kit to an old panel, because when the old panel dies you end up spend twice. Once on the bolt on, then on the whole upgrade. If you can afford it its always better to go for the upgrade in the first place.

Thanks guys. Still discussing with my employer

Is there also any specialist equipment require in service gates/barriers? One of the sites mentioned force measuring equipment?

Also how long does it realistically take to service these properly?

So I can pass the information back

Your employer should have barriers and gates down on his efficacy insurance otherwise you could be in trouble if you do make a mistake. Force measuring equipment is fairly important especially if the gate your servicing is on a gradient. though as a rule you should be testing force regardless.

Servicing depends on the gate/barrier type of motor etc how many ground loops etc etc. You also need to take into account how many times you can operate the gate in short succession testing is all very well but on the same token you dont want to burn the motor out  so even small gates can take ten minutes.

Sounds like someone else over specced and it ended up in your van...

Not everyone in this industry is a petty criminal but I always find it strange when one of my guys wants a new alarm for his new house and he buys everything but the cable from me. Im no angel so I turn a blind eye but I never close my eyes completely

  12. Most gate and barrier suppliers will point you in the right direction for training. LinkCare I think even run their own training courses.

Not really saving money by sending people that dont know what they are doing. Id rather put round pegs in round holes. But most gate and barrier companies seem to be too busy with their own stuff to want to sub for anyone else nowadays.

Our guys are okay on service and maint and can install, but we regularly sub the install work out its cheaper to get someone that does it everyday to do it in the long run.
