The uk and the eu security industry is far more secure than the us. There are touch screen keypads out there, but I would agree that many of the uk rkp's are not that aesthetically pleasing but Ive yet to see a rkp that is fantastic.
Personally if you dont like the look of the rkp then put it in a cupboard, if you are having the system installed by a professional they will have alternative methods of arming and disarming your system you need the keypad from a programming point of view, but thats it nowadays you can use your smartphone, or a proximity reader and fob, or a wireless device, or even locking unlocking your door to arm/disarm the alarm.

They already sound cheap to me, I would say replacement control panel would be between £500-£700 depending on expanders ect.
I too disagree with their diagnosis the keypads are probably fine, its most likely just the panel thats gone. You wont find a 1990's panel in the wholesalers and the keypads wont work with the new panel so they have to be changed anyway. They are probably right regards the panel though. unserviced equals a knackered battery which will draw more current from the panel and weakens components over time, spikes in the mains when the power comes back on is also likely to cause damage on an old and weakened panel.

You may be better getting an engineer to come and decommission it if your not using it, otherwise it will just be another nuisance everytime you get a powercut.
It all depends on if you think you might be burgled or not, as to wether you replace it

I cut my teeth on Regalsafe engineers of today dont realise how easy life is for them nowadays with eth yes no questions in full LCD text, and the upload download from apps and laptops

Is your telly 30 years old or your fridge? if this alarm panel was a car it would be classed as a classic, and there are collectors out there that would buy it off you you can then get yourself a nice late panel with a quiet switch mode psu that will consume less power too

Assuming you are forwarding pictures by email you need to use the smtp settings for o2 these are the outgoing settings (you would be better off using a contracted sim over payg imo) if the arc is using an Immex server then its the ports that need to be open on the SIM and thats when it gets tricky with PAYG

Hi, I am having a similar problem, what did you do to resolve? Thanks
In order to help it would be an idea to say exactly what is, or is not happening and what you did to cause it to happen or not happen. We are alarm engineers not mind readers

Whats wrong with Terracotta paint!!
Anyway I've fixed it! I would like to tell you I read the manual and trouble shooting guide and got all technical with it and found the problem but that would of course be a lie. I noticed it was saying something about Zone 6 12hr when the alarm went off so I figured I would turn zone 6 off which just happens to be the old back door sensor which is now kaput anyway. However when you go through the menu to turn off the zones it just does a kind of family fortunes XX buzz and says you cannot disable that zone. So I try that with the other five zones and the same. So then I reset the alarm and hey presto its fine. Tested it a couple of times and its ok.
I worked in IT for decades and I never really liked it when stuff just fixed itself or got fixed and you are never really sure how.
Jury is out. If it plays up again ill call in an alarm company.
Cheers
I think the Jury will be back soon!

If the battery hasnt been replaced in 22 years its probably cooked.
It will normally say "alarm" on the keypad when you switch it off press yes (or it might be press no) and it should tell you what activated it.
If the battery has cooked, the charging circuit will be pulled down which may have knackered the non volatile memory. So when you had the powercut the panel forgot everything. So when you part set the alarm it didnt know what zones where supposed to be omitted and didnt omit any so if its the bedroom or landing detectors that activated, its time for a new panel

Suprised many are using it though
Mostly locksmiths and photo copiers shops installing it round these parts. I understand why people would use their local locksmith to install alarm tat, but photocopying shops selling alarms and CCTV on the side just seems bizarre

One year I was photographed for an advert the yellow pages for two different alarm companies, the co I used to work for had pics taken not long before I left, and then the co I currently worked for did the same. Nobody asked if I worked for both co's or if the co's were affiliated, though a surprising amount of customers commented to me about it at the time. Risco and Pyronix are two completely different alarm companies, they may have used the same images in their literature but that is as far as it goes
