  1. Not really, a multimeter wont tell you the full story as ideally it should be tested under load. Another easy way to tell if its beyond repair is to look on the rear of the PCB (You have to remove it from the case ) there is a large resistor, if that is scorched its most likely too late to change the battery, if its burnt or crumbles in your hand its way too late. Be careful there is mains electricity in the panel
  2. do you have more than one keypad?
  3. Could be a waste of money if the battery has been out for a long time the charging circuit is very likely to be no good, as said earlier at least check that there is power coming from the battery terminals before wasting your money on a new battery.
  4. No I am very content with my life, I just wish the rest of the world was less fkd up
  5. SDI came along and then someone found a way to improve it they called it CVI Thats the problem with technology just a soon as you buy a 3D 60inch top of the range Samsung TV they will bring out a 4K version you buy that then they bring out the curved screen version, and so on.
  6. Thats because you;re a busy fool Imran
  7. That's the north south divide, the dancing girls are twice the price down here Liam......and half the size
  8. £100 extra for a Saturday is cheap, How much do you think an alarm engineer earns?, they really dont need to work weekends so when you want them to you have to motivate them properly. My chaps would want far more than £100 extra to work on a Saturday they are far to busy watching dancing girls and lighting cigars with tenners at weekends
  9. I could not forget, I take great detours just to make sure I dont bump into him
  10. Is Essex in Surrey now??
  11. LOL! I thought it was quite clear, but I was very drunk yesterday
  12. hi and welcome
  13. The problem is as soon as you re-power the system, or fit the new battery, it will start to sound and if you dont know the user code you have no way of stopping it. The Accord is fairly old and if I remember correctly the codes on their own cannot be defaulted . Theretofore the system will need to be defaulted completely and reprogrammed.
  14. Unless you know the user code I would not advise you touch any of it, as its designed not to be sabotaged. But if you diss the external sounder then down power the mains to the internal panel you will achieve any immediate problems. If you decide then you would like to get it up and running then I would suggest you call an installer
  15. Another thing to bear in mind if you have a power problem when your on holiday, the council will call one of us out to disarm the system and then send you a bill for their time and the alarm co. Funnily we are discussing this very subject in the trade forums. But because the poor home owners alarm was ringing internally they will get three bills one for the locksmith one for the alarm co and the third from the environmental dept. Stitch in time, save bigger bills
  16. Covering the sensor with blutac does not tell you its the detector thas faulty, quite the opposite, you need to link the detector at the the detector if it continues to activate its not the detector, if it doesnt then it is. Currently you only know its not environmental ie something the detector wasnt seeing. It could be a whole lot of other things You dont have to replace the detector with same make but to me that looks like a Risco PIR
  17. But dont expect them to simply give out their engineers code as that will leave all their other customers vulnerable
  18. Hi Callum The only way to get the panel unlocked is to send the PCB to Gardtec. Its locked there is a clue in the name, if an engineer could unlock it it would not be locked it would just need defaulting. Though you could try leaving it in the freezer over night
  19. Problem with using the lighting circuit is that when a bulb blows it takes a trip with it
  20. Hi Rob and welcome
  21. Id question why would you want to, but I suppose the answer is there isnt anywhere else. Kitchens will get damp occasionally, condensation from cooking and when the kettle goes wrong, not really a good place to put a bit of electronics that could cause a whole lot of noise should it go wrong.
  22. Hi and welcome AM here, I have used Win Sims in the past and KISS but AM is good value
  23. Problem with this site is some people think its a free job site, they turn up drop an add and thats the last you see of them. The chap may be a good subbie but his attitude stinks I commented that he had missed a vital bit of info from his ad and he didnt like it. Did himself no favours with his reply. What most chaps do not realise is by participating they are actually advertising what they know, and those that are regulars will more likely to pick up work. Its always those desperately seeking subbies and those subbies desperately seeking work that never hang around, whereas I have 20 or thirty subbies I can call on, and most are regular members here that dont need to advertise.
  24. LOL!
  25. Tidied up, back on topic please
