PoE Requirements for 2 Cameras

Featured Replies

I have an installation which runs PoE around 80m to a PoE splitter, then off to one camera 1m away and another camera aroun 5m away, which was working successfully for a number of months and now isn't. Any iseas as to why this would stop working?  I am considering installing a new PoE switch to replace the splitter, would this work?

It depends on the wattage of the devices but 80m is a long way.

You have to consider other devices on the switch and the overall budget, maybe they are now drawing more current than from installation, affecting the longest run.

PoE switch at the splitter point would be sensible, yes.

Thanks for your feedback SWB, appreciated.  I will perform a test with a POE switch at the splitter and see if it works.

Ideally get power that end , if you can follow the existing cable with power cable of appropriate type

My plan is to get power supply to the new PoE switch location, is that what you mean?

Is the poe source big enough to run it all?

Well I am hoping the POE switch I install (with power supply) in place of the splitter will power the two cameras which are too far from the main PoE switch to draw power.

just be caution as some cameras require POE+ and most switches cant do that

Yes once power is done just install switch there and it will probably work
