Although its only low voltage there is still the possibility of someone who doesn't know what they are doing blindly fiddling to burn the house down.

Where did you get the figure of £200 from?

fault- controls, cable or device.

if you've removed wiring & linked out zone & the controls still see the circuit open I would assume the controls are at fault

If the system has been installed properly I'd be tempted to put new devices onto the existing cables.

 

For the price your not prepared to pay, I could replace the controls, ewd, & a few pir's in say 2hrs ?
