We’ve been asked to quote for 2 small accommodation blocks used by a training company.  It's mostly ex-army guys on resettlement...

As per the FRA we quoted L2 (the layout actually makes the system L1) and EML as required.

They've made contact with the old occupier of the building who happens to be a company specialising in firefighting in maritime environments.  They have stated, I kid you not, "you don't need any of that stuff because all the students are ex-army and therefore strong and fit enough to climb out of the windows if there is a fire".

When I left the army I obviously missed out on the super smoke sensing skills when fast asleep award.

Yes because it would hardly get used, all the occupants would be ex-army and therefore getting dinner from the mess hall or using hex blocks to reheat boil in the bag curries.

So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands

I would advise the customer to get that in writing and keep it in a fire proof box, then when the building burns down and someone dies they will be covered

I pretty much said the exact same thing..  I asked them to get an FRA from this other firm stating that no AFD and EML required.  I'm still waiting to see it.

I wouldn't hold your breath, sounds like more of an ill informed off the cuff remark tbh

Well that off the cuff comment has now turned into fact and the risk assessor is now trying to justify his report!

It was even mentioned at one point that because the accommodation is offered for free and the students weren't paying guests, then did that mean they didn't need the fire alarm!  You can see where their priorities lie..
