Wanting some advice from anyone that has done this before.

 

I have been asked by a customer to provide cctv link between two buildings. They only want to see a quad split in the second building, no control or anything fancy, just pictures. The distance between them is roughly 300m and clear line of sight isn't the best, that is why i'm thinking Wifi is the only answer. They do have a computer network but its locked down and I cant go on it.

 

My first thought was to use microwaves etc but as i say clear line of sight is hard to achieve without going VERY high which isn't really practicable. That lead me onto thinking wifi but i've never seen it done before.

 

I'd be very grateful if anyone could share their experiences of doing something similar or even if they recommend kit that is up to the job.

tell them to cost difference between using their already installed network and microwave link - i bet they suddenly let you on the network..

hehe I hear you!!!! I've suggested that many times but its the kind of place that nobody gets on the network, the money factor doesn't come into it, it's just a NO NO!!

Can you put broadband into the remote site?

Id you havnt got line of sight directional WiFi will have the same issues as microwave

Any ducting in an existing trench?

I have a camera over wifi probably shorter than 300m and it stays connected 90% of the time. What I woulld say is use the default IP addresses that come with the router and access point. The problems I have had have been when there has been power problems at the site and either one or the other has defaulted, causing perminant connection failure until reprogrammed.   

this idea might be left of centre, but specialise in that .

unless you want constant surveillance streaming, what about the Risco Agility 3 using GSM adapter with camera enabled detectors? this kit sends stills to smart phones and a io option is also available.

you could always leave the dvr 'as i's and they can review the footage as needed perhaps prompted by the picture emails.

i've done a short write up in an earlier thread, i think you can 'dial in' and ask for pictures to be sent, but you need t check on this

I need to fit an 1mp Axis camera about 200m from the data cabinet, it would be external on a column. I can get mains there so can fit a Poe PSU but I need some kind of wireless link.

I also need to use the alarm inputs on the camera and the audio out.
