No that is cheap, non contract should be caned. Otherwise there is no point in having a contract. And if you have no contract customers you dont have a business.

 

Being too cheap attracts the cheap customers that want to knock you down all the time. Charge a proper price and you immediately illiminate all those customers that argue and generally are a pain in the rear. Personally I never buy the cheapest, the cheapest is usually the crappiest and you would be surprised how many jobs you get that you otherwise didnt becuase you were far to cheap.

Non maint callout for us (next available appt might be 3 days etc) is £84 +vat. Gives half hour on site. 

So i think you were more than fair.

£75 is cheap with a passive to boot,ive always be torn on this situation,some would argue you charge much more than a contract customer or whats the point of having a contract,some see it as im on call anyway so its another £75 earned...i tend to go for the charge much more if they are not a contract customer idea,you could then discount what ever you see fit if they say sign up for a contract which could lead to upgrades and freinds and neighbours getting you work also..tho every companies different,i know some that wont turn out at all for what ever price

Would have been 165+vat with us, if it could be done in 1st 15 minutes, or else another 70+vat per hour

 100% agree. We don't do non contract full stop. We charge £75 + VAT for a reset so I think the cusomer got the deal of the century getting a PIR, callout and all that done for such a small amount.

As I mentioned "Don Arnold" always said this industry never charges enough.

An example above was for hairdressing.

Another is calling out a vet, or a plumber.

 

£75 is just too cheap for a non maintained.

What do you charge a maintained client?  £40.00?

 

PS, no disrespect intended here, just observations.

 

And Kingston..............one of the highest property value places in London. Not off Kingston Hill was it?

Your price is fair IMO. If you're concerned though, next time do a full walk test, test set and activate maybe even test the battery. This way you are adding value and the only cost is a few minutes of your time. It may not seem much but they will perceive to have received much more.

 

We tend not to do out of contract call outs though, unless they are our own systems or there's the possibility of it leading to a new job, for example "we have just had a break in and we now want our old alarm servicing" or "our insurance has insisted on service". I treat these as sales leads.

 

For any other out of contract stuff all we offer is decommissioning for a a fixed price.

richl thats a good point,but as theres always a but,youve technically serviced the system and signed it off as so,im not sure of the ins and outs but would you then be liable if say a break in and no act,customer would say so and look to blame,as were in a blame culture these days and some vulture would take it on :ranting: would you add something in the t&c's

Where I work we charge £90 +vat for non contract call out during office hours, half hour on site aswell. I did a 7 amp battery change on a 9800 scanny on a saturday afternoon non contract 180 inc vat. Payment before leaving cash or cheque.
