December 21, 201213 yr comment_297091 Does anybody know if there are any load rules regarding ladders ontop of vans? I know obviously weight is an issue to the bars and roof, but what about length? Am I right in saying that to be legal, ladders must not stick out further than the footprint of the van? I was summonsed By West Yorkshire Police. i gave a written defence withs specifications for the Astra Roof Bars, the Ladders and the ladder clamps. I sites exceptional weather as the cause (not the nob driving). Th Chief Constable accepted the argument and dropped the charge. Be warned it Was Me! they prococuted. Try the highway code. Customers! However the high-vis vest on the end of ridiculously overhanging ladders seems to go unnoticed by local plod. Obviously they're busy updating there website Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/33775-ladders-on-roof/#findComment-297105 Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
 He forget to clamp them down? I've done this a couple of times with steps and they bounced off the bonnet soon as i used the brakes. I've also driven twenty odd miles without clamping my little giants down and they never moved an inch as they are so heavy. Didn't realise until i looked out the bedroom window and though f*ck! I guess i have been lucky as i could be serving a sentence for manslaughter Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/33775-ladders-on-roof/#findComment-297108 Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
 December 22, 201213 yr comment_297109 He forget to clamp them down? He did well to get on to the motorway without losing them, if they weren't clamped. I have always put my ladder clamps in the drivers footwell and padlock on the drivers seat, so I don't forget. December 22, 201213 yr comment_297116 I have always put my ladder clamps in the drivers footwell That's what I've always done, I must be some sort of ladder genius as I can also- a.) Put them on vehicle w/o scuffing f'ck out of the paint b.) Clamp them on w/o bending the ladder bars to a V c.) Not throw the clamp around loosing the m12 washers or bungs d.) Not hurt myself loading them on / off e.) put the padlocks on so they don't get pinched f.) Not drop them on the vehicle Edited December 22, 201213 yr by MrHappy corrected in blue Mr Veritas God Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/33775-ladders-on-roof/#findComment-297116 Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
