Advice On Sensor Positions

Re communication and grade 4 compliant. It won't be

But still a flexible bit of kit. You going to use gpio?

haha yeah I was kidding about it being grade 4 :P

It will be written in C and yep will be using gpio, taking the logic from the panel. It would be proof of concept though. Using PGP to encrypt the email. Would be nice to try and meet standards. I'm a computer science student but my main interest is security, all be it burglar alarms, fire alarms ect and computer security :teehee:

Also if you cut the BT line, you lose DSL and thus no email, unless you use 3G but then it's finding a provider that won't remove the credit from the sim after 30 days.

Gen 4 is a fine panel for audible only self install imo.

I don't doubt that, even though there not my panel of choice.

I was thinking more expandability and features.

Especially as there are 9 devices listed

Premier Elite 24 Metal with ComIP or ComGSM as an example.

This would mean 10 zones (8 in the panel, 2 in the keypad)

With extra flexibility for outputs, expanders and modules etc etc

You could save your Pi for other things.

Also have you seen arduino

Yeah I have, there's a few out there. Pandaboard is another (and probably better for the said use) but I already have a Pi and would be for fun anyway :)

I never considered Texecom for panels. They look good if im honest :) Then again, the Ademco Microtech/Honeywell Galaxy looks good too but programming it might be a bit complicated and with EOL. The G4 is almost too easy.

Nothing complicated about EOL wiring.

Texecom anybody can easily program with Wintex.

Premiers, Galaxys etc are in a different league to a G4 you can't compare them.

Are there any other panels that are older (i.e cheap on fleabay) but would surpass the Accenta G4? The Texecom looks great but overkill and expensive for a bells only system.

Or a better "grade 2" panel than the G4?

Second hand g2-20 or 48. Achievable for about 50-60 quid.

I would opt for either a dimension or a classic. But I wouldn't buy anything from eBay personally

The whole Galaxy line looks like it's best kept to the pros. The G2 looks like it would do the job nicely, but I don't want to go down that path myself unless I knew more about the panel.

Texecom Veritas Excel and the Honeywell Accenta G4 are the easy DIY panels that I'm looking at.

The Premier Elite 24 and the Menvier m550 are the other two that I'm looking at. Any thoughts on the Menvier?
