  1. If its monitored it does need to be installed to the relevant standard, if its not monitored or its self monitored what you declare the system as makes it relevant to how its installed and affects your liability as the installer and the risk to the client and their insurance premium?.
  2. Is it bells only, does it really need to comply?
  3. no thats not what is being said. You omit the landing so you can use the toilet on a night without setting off the alarm. You come downstairs walk in front of the detector in the hallway and you want it to start the entry tones.Zone 2 the hallway PIR should be guard access type and dont go fiddling with the attributes as the chances are you are changing the system from the way it should work to something else. if you change the zone to not used and then back to guard access it should behave as you want. However be aware that changing settings with no understanding of the system or how it works is only likely to cause issues for you i the long term, get a pro in is my recomendation and make sure the whole system is done correctly.
  4. Certainly is the case and your on the edge of where I would cover.
  5. the main obstacle is getting the door contact transmitter far enough away for the steel container which your sending the signal out from. Then you can worry about devices in waterproof boxes between the house and the container, I would have done some readings in the field to see what I have to play with.
  6. ip cameras have the feature so it can be used. the turbo or anl;ougue cameras dont have the function built so depending on the DVR, you can have 1 or two anlogue/turbo devices with the VCA. The HQ series allows two the cheaper DVR model allows 1.
  7. currently it appears you have an internal ip address and not an external one. Once the notifications are setup and you have the app to update ip, it will take care of itself. Just need to make sure you have the panel setup correctly should be sia and not contact id, send sia text selected. if version 3 then also need protocol options 2 set to the same comport the com ip unit is on (com1)
  8. i ams sure i have mentioned them on here and waiting for answers from supplier/ HIK.
  9. any good I define as does it do what you and the customer want for the price you both want to pay. does it have issues, well I think so and its on the bits that my customers are asking for where it falls down, and not 100% happy, so I am waiting on what can be done to make it the product for me to use. Crazy situation when nothing these days works perfectly on all the features they have available, that said it does have a lot of nice features that work well.
  10. You don't need a dns, as the notifications send the ip out the app then updates with the lasts ip just like the dns would.(not quite the same process). if you have set things up according to the manual, whilst I am sure I could sort this out for your remotely, I need to know what's what as it is now and I don't want to offend you but need to see it. If you want to discuss give us a call by all means and see what I can do
  11. if you can use the app on the iphone, then the unit is working, most likely on the internal ip address and your connected to your wireless router. If you cant access externally on another wireless network or mobile data connection then your port forwarding isn't right or your dynamic ip has changed or you have an internal ip address assigned in your app. if your notifications are working then this wouldn't be an issue as the app gets updated with the latest ip address when it polls in to the Texecom server. The app set for update ip when you open the connection for that system the ip updates if its selected on the app. not being able to do a test call suggest that the panel isnt programmed correctly to send out the notifications. however you need to know a little about what your doing with the panel and routers, version 3 elite panels would require a little more work.
  12. theres no question about blame, the bus hit the van which was parked and it was captured on CCTV or more the fact the bus trying to get away was captured as it was hooked up so to speak he had to reverse to get disconnected. Just the whole process is so dam slow even though they accepted liability its still not settled in full and because iof the way the system appears to work I was surprised and have the ombudsman involved not that its done anything more thamn get me better informed since dragging them in. Its sad but if it had been my fault it would have progressed much quicker. Not sure how to factor that into looking for insurance, lets face it accepting liability which the bus company did (even though that took about 4 days to show on the system) you would have thought it would make things easier not harder. as for the OP, starting up isnt easy and there has been some good advice on here, between the thread filling. Maybe he has gone away to digest the information and do his sums?
  13. I don't think your prepared in the slightest given the questions. Costs of starting up, so how much would you need? What do you need to live on? Where is the work coming from? What you going to charge? What jobs can you realistically take on? I haven't been trading long compared to some of the folk on here, they advised against it and it seriously isn't easy. I get work in and times I am busy and ideally need another pair of hands and others I aint so busy. What is your competition like, in my neck of the woods its heavy, I win some I lose some, recommendations are great, but to be recommended you need to get work in first? What if your ill. or fall off a ladder? What if some f'in bus hits your van and the insurance f'k you about messing up the jobs you have on, can you get what you need to tide you over and get working whilst your waiting. (happened to me before Christmas and it was a nightmare sorting things out rearranging jobs and still waiting for all the money back for the repairs, but if I waited for the insurance I probably still wouldn't be back on the road). I have a fair bit of stock and that stuff seriously adds up, yet must individual items aren't so expensive. Theres more bad weather on the way and how bad it is going to be we will have to wait and see, but migt be wishing I had a 4 x 4 or a boat....lol
  14. When a consumer purchases goods from a business, they will have rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 as amended. This legislation states that goods supplied by businesses must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. This means that they must be safe, free from minor defects, durable, amongst other things. Where this is not the case, the seller of the goods can be held in breach of contract and may have to offer a remedy to the consumer. If you have had the item for a fairly short time, it may be possible to for a full refund, as you may not have had the goods for a long enough period of time to be deemed to have ‘accepted’ them in the eyes of the law. This period of time can vary depending on the type of item you have. Important bit:- You can also make a claim for the original and return postage. Essentially, you should not be at a financial loss as a result of the breach of contract. Although eBay have made a ruling, their decision is not legally binding and hence you can claim under the Sale of Goods Act. this was three years ago and consumer direct was closing later that year, and advised after they closed citizen advice. If you dont have clear instruction on how to utilise the product it is useless but how you that is another issue.
  15. I seem to recall that under UK law, the consumer is not to be out of pocket, but you would have to check how that works. Ebay policy is not necessarily UK law is what i was told a few years back see if I can find out the source and the exact quote.
  16. its few months old this post and customers specific request at the time. although they seem to have dropped off the face of the earth.
  17. be useful, better still if the system was unique after every visit, think I could incorporate that. lets not get ahead of ones self, its something for me to look at tomorrow and a basic app to do the donkey work.
  18. lol you wouldnt see my codes on the list, I was making a statement that it be nice to have a list of codes cant remember the post but someone said they had a list. still working on my engineers uniqe code calculator.
  19. I have had a few systems that have been locked and not all of them have back doors. If possible I opt for default alarm codes rather than default the entire panel. A list of what the other companies use would be useful though.
  20. Depends on how far you want to take this, I am only aware of 1 person making a legal challenge (so they say) because the engineer wouldnt release the engineers code/ or reset it to the default. Based on that case I would say it is possible to make the engineer change the engineers code and provide it to the end user. However I would expect a fee to be paid, that fee should be inline with there fees to attend site and perform a minimum duty, as the process is short it should not cost any more than there minimum. Any system where the engineers code is disclosed to the end user loses their right to any warranty that would normally be offered. In my opinion it would be unreasonable for an engineer to disclose an engineers code that compromises all his systems, or for any system they are offering any guarantee or responsible for. All my clients that request the engineers code are told that by doing so there is no warranty as I can not guarantee the integrity of the system it then becomes a choice. The engineers code where its displayed in full prior to being changed, is changed before the end user changes it to their preferred code. That is reflected on their receipt. I went and fixed a system last week changed the engineers code, the customer said and I quote "I want the engineers code so I can maintain the system". Which you may consider a bit strange because they were playing around with the system, got it in a mess and called me to sort it out in the first place. Fine, I changed the engineers code to the default and let them change it to something else (they let the property), showed the system working and advised them that beyond that I can accept no liability for any future issue as I have no control of the system. The codes can be defaulted on that system even if its a ball ache by a competent installer. My customer is always right, but as a result of their decision may lose some of their rights to warranty. You simply cant expect an engineer to be responsible for a system if the end user has access to the engineers code.
  21. I understand and agree to a point, however I probably look at this issue differently to you, I certainly know my time was wisely spent.
  22. Update, he had changed a lot of settings without understanding there implications and just put things back to how they should be with the zones programed for the appropriate function and wiring type. So the panel was arming in 10 seconds (instant), exit settle time was set to 10 seconds, rather than the 30 seconds programed for exit. if you hadn't exited within the exit settle time the panel was failing to arm, if leaving immediately after starting the arming process the alarm panel set. Picked up by listening to the arming process over the phone. Not always easy to convey via forum or email. Problem at that point was keypad having a different address than they thought and that keypad address had no area assigned (so trying to arm instantly), assigned keypad to area A and then it behaved as it needs to. 20 + plus zones wired up eol, given other posts on here don't sound so bad from a complete diyer.
  23. need the profile so we can stop guessing at possible causes, according to the post above only changed the zone settings. at 2.15am still not seen them. (dont worry havent been awake allnight waiting for them just checking in when I woke up).
