theres no question about blame, the bus hit the van which was parked and it was captured on CCTV or more the fact the bus trying to get away was captured as it was hooked up so to speak he had to reverse to get disconnected. Just the whole process is so dam slow even though they accepted liability its still not settled in full and because iof the way the system appears to work I was surprised and have the ombudsman involved not that its done anything more thamn get me better informed since dragging them in. Its sad but if it had been my fault it would have progressed much quicker. Not sure how to factor that into looking for insurance, lets face it accepting liability which the bus company did (even though that took about 4 days to show on the system) you would have thought it would make things easier not harder. as for the OP, starting up isnt easy and there has been some good advice on here, between the thread filling. Maybe he has gone away to digest the information and do his sums?

I don't think your prepared in the slightest given the questions. Costs of starting up, so how much would you need? What do you need to live on? Where is the work coming from? What you going to charge? What jobs can you realistically take on? I haven't been trading long compared to some of the folk on here, they advised against it and it seriously isn't easy. I get work in and times I am busy and ideally need another pair of hands and others I aint so busy. What is your competition like, in my neck of the woods its heavy, I win some I lose some, recommendations are great, but to be recommended you need to get work in first? What if your ill. or fall off a ladder? What if some f'in bus hits your van and the insurance f'k you about messing up the jobs you have on, can you get what you need to tide you over and get working whilst your waiting. (happened to me before Christmas and it was a nightmare sorting things out rearranging jobs and still waiting for all the money back for the repairs, but if I waited for the insurance I probably still wouldn't be back on the road). I have a fair bit of stock and that stuff seriously adds up, yet must individual items aren't so expensive. Theres more bad weather on the way and how bad it is going to be we will have to wait and see, but migt be wishing I had a 4 x 4 or a boat....lol

Single 8 Core Cable Feeding Two Detectors
secureiam replied to matt6697's topic in Members Lounge (Public)
I think its mad when just one core is used for a zone and all the cores are accounted for with power and all the zones using 1 core. its nice and tidy at the panel end very few cables don't get me wrong but it isn't good when things start going wrong with the system. -

If there is a cause like 4G then it could get very serious for a lot of wireless systems out there. It could be the increase of wireless coms on 868, cheap rubbish appears to be on the increase whilst I am out and about. Question is how do you protect your customer and your business? Lets face it you install something and if its your fault then that's one thing, but if its something outside of your control what can you do, if your customer ends up with a wireless system that wont work due to 4G or other interference that wasn't present at the time of design or install.

probably, I dont understand your point. your getting a carpenter to fit brake pads now I am confused. so you car still will start, and move but it might not stop in times, fitting the wrong brake pads by someone who doesn't know what they are doing could be dangerous as you think you car has the correct capability to stop. I still don't see your point when referring to alarms and the original post. May be I am blonde.
 -
I dont like fobs because I feel they are less secure, but don't really think about the car keys. remote arming and disarming fobs are certainly as bad, as they will report back the status of the alarm and allow you to disarm it. But you still have to know the House to use it on even if you find the keys and the fob etc. Find keys in a carpark just point and unlock door and wait for the car to flash to say here I am? So the fob for the house is probably more secure than a fob for the car? I like the risco agility 3 remote fob as you can have it coded, okay so its only 4 digits, but requires two actions if programmed ie disarm and the 4 digit code, but that wont work on a monitored system as once you enable the standard the feature is disabled.

Danmini Ya-500 Gsm Wired / Wireless Manual Request
secureiam replied to championc's topic in Control Panels (Public)
When a consumer purchases goods from a business, they will have rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 as amended. This legislation states that goods supplied by businesses must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. This means that they must be safe, free from minor defects, durable, amongst other things. Where this is not the case, the seller of the goods can be held in breach of contract and may have to offer a remedy to the consumer. If you have had the item for a fairly short time, it may be possible to for a full refund, as you may not have had the goods for a long enough period of time to be deemed to have ‘accepted’ them in the eyes of the law. This period of time can vary depending on the type of item you have. Important bit:- You can also make a claim for the original and return postage. Essentially, you should not be at a financial loss as a result of the breach of contract. Although eBay have made a ruling, their decision is not legally binding and hence you can claim under the Sale of Goods Act. this was three years ago and consumer direct was closing later that year, and advised after they closed citizen advice. If you dont have clear instruction on how to utilise the product it is useless but how you that is another issue. -

I seem to recall that under UK law, the consumer is not to be out of pocket, but you would have to check how that works. Ebay policy is not necessarily UK law is what i was told a few years back see if I can find out the source and the exact quote. -
well at least it put the fire out

Hkc, Pyronix Homecontrol+ Or Texecom For Reliability?
secureiam replied to catvin's topic in Guest Forum
Dont think you should over complicate your choices. As for which panel is the best fit, that depends on what you want it to do and if you want to integrate into home automation etc. If you want to differentiate between the offerings, ask what solution is offering the best value and what about future expansion/ integration. I install Texecom and Risco equipment as my prefered and had the odd glitch and nothing major long term issues, installed a few enforcers but not the homecontrol and had no issues but they were pretty basic installs, not done HKC. Some of my customers choose by how it looks to them, or just price beaters. paying for the HKC app may sound like a bad thing, but the service has to be paid for somewhere, the fact its paid for may mean its a way of generating revenue, or away of expanding the service infrastructure as demand increases, so its less likely to fall over due to demand and lack of investment. -

				Engineer Code For Menvier M-Series
secureiam replied to blackfish's topic in Control Panels (Public)
I have had a few systems that have been locked and not all of them have back doors. If possible I opt for default alarm codes rather than default the entire panel. A list of what the other companies use would be useful though. -

				Engineer Code For Menvier M-Series
secureiam replied to blackfish's topic in Control Panels (Public)
Depends on how far you want to take this, I am only aware of 1 person making a legal challenge (so they say) because the engineer wouldnt release the engineers code/ or reset it to the default. Based on that case I would say it is possible to make the engineer change the engineers code and provide it to the end user. However I would expect a fee to be paid, that fee should be inline with there fees to attend site and perform a minimum duty, as the process is short it should not cost any more than there minimum. Any system where the engineers code is disclosed to the end user loses their right to any warranty that would normally be offered. In my opinion it would be unreasonable for an engineer to disclose an engineers code that compromises all his systems, or for any system they are offering any guarantee or responsible for. All my clients that request the engineers code are told that by doing so there is no warranty as I can not guarantee the integrity of the system it then becomes a choice. The engineers code where its displayed in full prior to being changed, is changed before the end user changes it to their preferred code. That is reflected on their receipt. I went and fixed a system last week changed the engineers code, the customer said and I quote "I want the engineers code so I can maintain the system". Which you may consider a bit strange because they were playing around with the system, got it in a mess and called me to sort it out in the first place. Fine, I changed the engineers code to the default and let them change it to something else (they let the property), showed the system working and advised them that beyond that I can accept no liability for any future issue as I have no control of the system. The codes can be defaulted on that system even if its a ball ache by a competent installer. My customer is always right, but as a result of their decision may lose some of their rights to warranty. You simply cant expect an engineer to be responsible for a system if the end user has access to the engineers code. -
I understand and agree to a point, however I probably look at this issue differently to you, I certainly know my time was wisely spent.

Update, he had changed a lot of settings without understanding there implications and just put things back to how they should be with the zones programed for the appropriate function and wiring type. So the panel was arming in 10 seconds (instant), exit settle time was set to 10 seconds, rather than the 30 seconds programed for exit. if you hadn't exited within the exit settle time the panel was failing to arm, if leaving immediately after starting the arming process the alarm panel set. Picked up by listening to the arming process over the phone. Not always easy to convey via forum or email. Problem at that point was keypad having a different address than they thought and that keypad address had no area assigned (so trying to arm instantly), assigned keypad to area A and then it behaved as it needs to. 20 + plus zones wired up eol, given other posts on here don't sound so bad from a complete diyer.
 -
need the profile so we can stop guessing at possible causes, according to the post above only changed the zone settings. at 2.15am still not seen them. (dont worry havent been awake allnight waiting for them just checking in when I woke up).
 -
It is programming and keep loading in your wintex profile will not help if the profile is wrong. do screen shots of wintex profile or reset the zones to guard access via zone setup on the keypad and then change them back to guard access and don't change anything else. not default the panel then load in your wintex profile. Still having problems show your wintex profile, on either site you are requesting help from. Its expected that the pirs in the hallway of the exit route are likely to be activated and hence why they are guard access not guard.
 -
how did you reset them back to guard access? did you use the keypad, select the zone in zone setup, press no then select guard access and then press yes? or did you use wintex to send your settings across.
 -
guess menus are what you are used to.
 -
seriously pirs on the exit route set to guard access and they should work, if you have been playing with the attributes, get to the keypad, go to zone setup, go to the zone and put the zone to not used and then back to guardaccess and leave alone do this for the zones affected and then try again. If a guard zone is active during the set it will say that its preventing it from arming a guard access wont as it is expected to be active as its on the exit route. Sounds like you need professional help to look into what is happening as the whole story just isn't there at the moment.
