  1. I'd be amazed if they didn't. True they still have the 'Trade Only' sign in the window but it doesn't stop cash sales when no questions are asked (i.e. always)

Why would they break from tradition.

And the other thing they're good at is giving JP better discount than trade.

  2. Hi Cubit,

Thanks for the reply.  I guess I was concerned that if the LED's flash all the time, then it may signal a potential intruder that the system is dummy, as it could represent a 'live' system, even if the property is clearly occupied.

Given you have confirmed that LED's must always flash, then that is fine.  All new systems going in now will have to follow this regulation.

Out of interest, can there be no LED's flashing, and then just the strobe when set off?

Not convinced you're reading the replies correctly.

The LEDS are optional/not compulsory. But, if you have them on, they stay on, set or unset.

Their purpose is a bit of a gimmick, feelgood factor, that type of thing. Helps show in the dark that the premises have/pretends to have an alarm.

  3. Hi thanks for the reply.

So are you saying that the LED's are not allowed to flash constantly?

They have indicated that their system has continuous flashing LED's (even if system off, e.g. house is occupied) and then when the alarm is triggered the strobe lights flash.

EWD (bellbox) leds are allowed to flash constantly.

What you don't do is have them indicate set or unset.

eg, only flashing when the panel is set.

The leds are seperate to the strobe, which can/is programmed for different options.

  4. And here's me complaining that my vdsl2 FTTC is only 45/13 :)

In fairness cubit. Must be taking a while banging all that fibre and cabinets in. Must be keeping the 3rd party inspectors busy signing off so many installs :)

Surprised that vm won't. Though all things Virgin were very customer focused.

I've away been nervous about it. Luckily I have a cop out. MASvideo doesn't support dns, only IPs so I've had a great excuse not to support any dns service. For the end users we have xxxxx.4isecurity.co.uk

To be fair to VM, whilst they don't do static for domestics, the dynamic IP allocated doesn't change randomly, unlike BT.

As long as you have a reliable router it is therefore most likely you keep the same IP. Not perfect i know but if BT won't upgrade the service then VM it is.

  5. Sky, say no more.

To me if remote connectivity is desired an ISP that understands and can support things properly is a must.

You can get static IPs and some really great support from eclipse for a tenner a month. That's who we use when we supply broadband as part of our gear.

    You could have peteshouse.petesalarmco.co.uk

If dyndns goes down you or the arc gets nowt and it's outside your control.

    VM don't offer statics either.

The thing your forgetting though is shitty BT.

They are cherry picking the post codes they install fibre to. So may areas are still stuck with 1MB broadband unless they go with VM

  6. If you're interested in the DIY route, check out the free app Salient Eye in Google Play (just for Android at the moment). Uses an old smartphone and detects motion, sending images to you via SMS / email prior to to sounding an alarm. Really clever, and free

    Does it detect spam?

  7. I love the TV adverts which have LOADS of small writing at the bottom of them.   Like 'Actual Size is 1:500000000 of size'

Thats just a service related thing,  I do think its nice but at same time cheesy.

Right, deffo to to do a swap from tablet to lappy,

    Or should I say, Surface.

  8. I got Leaflet from ADT saying £99 Alarm fitted from ADT.

That would infer that they would fit alarm for £99.  *Cough SCAM*

Again I just wanted find out why they seems to so much a bad thing about £7.50 a month alarm.   As the alarm is very basic and comes with like 1 PIR and 1 door contact.

I do believe I need to fire up the laptop.
  9. They have always said that if we get independence it will not be a overnight thing as there loads things which need set up and sorted. They said it would be a 10 year plan before everything is independent.

I sure most them view it as normal as we got Amazon up here and quite a few E-Commerance companies up here including a Sh*t huge Tesco Distribution Centre which covers like from Manchester to Highlands and Islands.

Well the did admit that they have nowhere to put the Navy Subs down south as they don't have any free docks.

    Who is 'they'?

    And I've now decided.

    Come back Colin.

  10. I don't think it is,   As I seen Big Companies using Local Number in marketing stuff.

A*T does it on their Door to Door Leaflets saying your Local Branch is 01XXX and it really goes to there National Call Centre.

They were saying Scotland would keep BT & Openreach due to its investment they said.

You can indeed obtain an std code for anywhere you like. Most VoIP providers offer it.

As for BT/openreach. They are a world player in the telecoms industry, a presence in many areas, but this shows how the pro independence lot like to pick and choose.

If you want out, fine. But most down here, I would hazard a guess, would say out is out. You want out, then bye bye, no clutching at hand outs from Westminster.

Just remember, Alec Salmond is not your friend.
