  1. i see a few on ebay holding out for near on the £500 mark on used, and the cheaper ones went for around £350

theres one with a stuck button but have no idea how much it would cost to repair, and if the buttons stuck whats to say something else isnt broke aswell so avoiding that one.

so over the odds at 500 second hand, offered someone more than you suggested for second hand but not by much, its brand new so they claim and it looks like it. so not paying too much over by the looks of things.

thanks thats helped me a fair bit, just see if they except the offer now I guess.

At theme prices I'd buy brand new.

    Remember, its your job.

Pissing about over a few quid difference is daft, even if money may be tight.

  2. I don't think the flowers or tool kit are expensive but its only for New Installs but if you think of how much profit you are making on each install? A Small token on gift does get noticed by customers.   Just look at what companies do to try and get you to join them as a customer.  Today I got a call from a Utility Provider giving me £100 vouchers for switching my Broadband and Line Rental!

    Well, did you?

  3. I have not a clue.  To be honest I just accepted it as I get paid a bit more.   Our company has stupid job titles.  Like our Apprentices are not called Apprentices but called Trainee Safety and Security Engineers and that is due to our company does not take part in the Goverment Apprenticeship scheme and to be honest they get paid £7.50 per hour! and rises every year!

Maybe you could tell me what difference between a Technician and Engineer is then?

Based purely on your responses on here, surely that should be technician and engineer?

  4. It was internal tests with our training and development officer.

    Basically.

    1) Giving good customer service - The normal Always smiling, Showing ID, explaining what I be doing and how long I roughly be.

(Company has a long list on it from laying matts down to hovering up all worked areas and etc.

    2) Using correct tools and equipment for the job - Was given a host of faults and problems and was expected to know where to look and fix the fault.   As the company has a First Fix is Last Fix Policy. which is where we should never have to return to site again and fix the same fault.

It is just to much hassle.   You should just do it automatically for me just coz you like me :D

Ah, i see, so you're an engineer then.

  5. Oh Yes I remember you said that in a forum about SIA speaking.

To be honest,  Its just I CBA getting copy of my ID, Company Details and etc.   As I am not here on a official capacity but more a personal as like to see whats going on in the industry.   I am a Safety & Security Engineer is my fancy work title.    Used to be Technician but passed some tests and become a 'Engineer' unsure on the whole difference apart from now I work alone half time

    Some tests?

    Care to elaborate?

  6. You have to be careful what accusations you band about. Just because you ain't badged doesn't mean you can't install to a published standard. Equally it means no one has externally checked that. So yeti said something that made me chuckle but was a valid point. As he isn't badged he feels he is a unhandcuffed installer meaning he views approval as somewhat restrictive rather than a benefit. Looking at what is needed to get badged is the minimum that any decent firm should have to trade but that doesn't under the current setup mean you can't work to the standards without the badge. Some (like me) view it that the relativity low fist of it makes it worth while to shut the critics up.

And don't forget that some with a badge can't meet the standards.

  7. I have sent my quote through but

    1hr drive to city centre

1 hr gagging about and replacing a fire call point.

    1 hr drive back

Have to be on site at 8am for job.

Give me a price as iv just said no chance and it will be £195+vat. I reckon I'm still cheap but can do services in and about the area at that time.

BTW I was told £100+vat all in including MCP.

I'm not used to this subby work tbh but will help any installer if in the area but I need to make money!

Was this to be done on a specific time and date or one you could do at your leisure when in the area?
  8. No issue with this, it just wasn't on the front page and is now.    The rules on the government distance selling website did not state that this had to be on the front page, only that it is available prior to and after any order.

In answer to your earlier question.

‘The Companies (Trading Disclosures) Regulations (Statutory Instrument 2008/495) and The Companies (Trading Disclosures) (Amendment) Regulations 2008 (SI No. 218)'

    See Companies Act 2006.

Wasn't knocking you per se, just thaty it's been something of a topic these last few months. Got quite heated at times when someone decided he was (and still seems to think) he is above the Law.
