  1. Guessing the ones in the middle are ceiling detectors! DT yes but I wouldn't personally put a smoke in the garage either, save it for the hall, a heat or RoR seems more appropriate in the garage. Lounge and Bed PIR is facing a window but if mirrored optics less of an issue. Landing deffo needs one two, otherwise its up the stairs during the EE timer, into any other bed and gone again all before you even get an alarm... As I guess the hallway will be on Access.
  2. But presumably separate action for doing the Part-P work without being a scheme member? Unless all non-domestic I suppose.
  3. I know that, just thought that might be a typical response, nothing more.
  4. 'Our web designers put that in without our knowledge, thank you very much for pointing it out to us' ('bugger... oh well got 12 months out of it.')
  5. Hmmm, results could be biased with that low a sample. I'd say go minimum of 100...
  6. Yes, for a start I had no idea the old Homelink 75 lived on in euroland!
  7. Problem is, as on my parents estate, the PIR cables can be in silly places, all unlabeled, and the cable is el cheapo nasty nasty aluminium tat. Unless you've got a true security bod advising them, and why would they really, it can be just as frustrating in my experience.
  8. Have to say the SAB wire is the one I'd really not want where its easy for anyone to damage...
  9. Yep I was going to say exactly that, if its signalled why bother with a live external bell? I fit a Elmdene 500S internally, and an identical housing to by 'live' bellboxes with a 5 year flashing LED by Bentley.
  10. +1 I think the i-on 30 is a tidy little panel and it will be hard for me to put it aside - I use it for little all-wired ind. units etc... But I think there a few missing features the Premier seems to offer that I won't say no to. More importantly, Scantronic wireless is very long in the tooth now and the ion-16 is a very cut-down panel, that personally I couldn't recommend. For example, on the 16 (unlike every other ion) your comms options are VERY limited.
  11. I'd bet the house its a Veritas! 'Sparky special' very very basic alarm that uses the same plastics case for the main box and keypad Still very well made to be fair but nowhere near as flexible as the Premier range.
  12. I wouldn't rule out Texe just because you feel your house is 'too small' - its still a great system, and well manufactured. With 9 devices or so. the mesh should have plenty to work with! Plus, the Texe 12W has 4 on board wired zones which might be useful. The HKC and Siemens are good too, although you might have to look around a bit to find a Siemens installer! I always bring demo kit to customers myself, I know some think its a bit old-school but from a customer point of view that's exactly what I'd want - to see what I'm getting not just a scruffy piece of paper with a single figure on it. And as everyone said, don't just go with the cheapest - use the company that you feel the most happy with, and do invite some SSAIB companies to quote for comparison. Also be aware some advice is for your benefit, not just to make more money for the company! For example, the number of times I've been told "we want to save a bit of money, so don't think we need those detectors upstairs" is a good example. It's only when I explain without them, a burglar could, for example, be straight through the door, up the stairs, and not have to worry about an alarm, let alone a confirmed alarm, for a good 20 seconds it hits home. Good luck!
  13. Ah right I only saw the pdf as a direct download but thanks for the heads up.
  14. Steinel, not cheap though, not cheap at all...
  15. 3. is true but its the old 'could get hit by a bus tomorrow' argument isn't it? I've never had an update on a panel result in an unusable panel - yet. If I did it would just as much a PIA if updated manually or automated though. I would worry that, if automated, manufacturers might be tempted to produce a much higher volume of less well tested releases though.
  16. The only thing I ever managed to truly brick doing an update was a Parrot bluetooth kit over RS232 (Funniest ever BT update method has to go to Blaupunkt - some models you had to create an MP3 CD with a specific file name, which then played a Spectrum style audio encoded update! Nope it couldn't directly load data...)
  17. I think I must have very different customers to most! 'We just want something that's easy to use' is all I ever hear! (No Somerset jokes please...)
  18. Is that @ me James? If so, no! TBH with the iOn it was just messing as no room in the case anyway (to also close the lid) Again I assumed harmonics as so close to the main GPRS module? Good to hear rather than 'we support Webway GPRS but not within 30m of the box'!
  19. Soz Arf soliciting is always illegal Be interesting to see if the GPRS interferes with the Texe wireless though? I did bench trials with the iOn yonks back and it did NOT like the Webway being in the same case.... (permanent Supervision fault) I did a double take at the 1.2AH battery but then remembered its a wireless panel, and, assuming contacts only on the 4 wired (or my fave IR120s taking 9mA) coupled with a fresh board design, assume that would actually last quite a while? Haven't looked at the panel quiescent yet. Also I assume were still talking fullsize board and with the mini it would be slightly more happy days?
  20. Yeah like a sad t**t I took copious pics of an R8 box I took out last week before doing my usual ebay-for-charity disposal. Kind of saw nothing was fitting without a lot of Prosol hotknife action....
