  1. There is absolutely no requirement for any additional fused spur being added to a ring circuit or lighting circuit to be doneby a Part P bod. But it should be a competent person and should be certificated for the tests that were done. Obvious exceptions would be; Domestics in a Bathroom or when any part of the cable runs outdoors with a junction box also being outside Connecting direct to the CU and prob lots of others....
  2. Lol. Is that another TOTP with an intro Jimmy / DLT / whoever we haven't found out about yet badly cut out? The german subtitles suggest otherwise...! Topen das pophits...?
  3. Lol, yeah thats the way to get their attention! As for sad but true... Don't get me wrong, it IS sad. But there are so many things I do now, that I couldn't do, with the handcuffs. And very little worthwhile that I couldn't. My ARC, for all the slagging by others, is well put together and professionally run. When I do CCTV, what am I gaining by doing a proper written spec, site plans, BS based handover checklist oh, but then having to pay £18 to someone for.... er....? And the chance they might bring up something about not using the correct font for the full stops, whilst the Gold guy down the road fits ungraded contacts on a G2 and does sticky ball tape joints in the loft? I'm always looking to improve my knowledge, and fire is definitely something I do want to get into and do properly, I'd rather spend the approval money on proper quals for that quite frankly.
  4. If a see a gold merc pull up outside I'll be on my guard. I wouldn't mind if the inspectorates did their job. But they don't give a toss.
  5. Sorry for going back on something I said earlier but I see absolutely no point in bothering with SSAIB now. I have BS vetting, I have efficacy insurance, I might even think about getting someone in to verify the quality of my work, I have a business operating manual, I have documented procedures, I do full EN / PD type paperwork, but the more I look at approval now, the more it just looks like fluffy handcuffs.
  6. Because they are too much like supporting self monitoring?
  7. Hi Les, going back to the original post, a map like that might be good actually....
  8. Pyronix and texecom now sell versions of their boxes which can be dummy, wireless, or trad wired in the same looking outer case(s). AFAIK only wired have LEDs.
  9. Or a wireless version of a Texecom or Pyronix box?
  10. Wireless bellboxes often don't have LEDs of any kind and they are increasing. So impossible to say these days. Conversely I often fit a dummy box with signalling systems that has a 5 year battery powered LED.
  11. "Some providers may indicate that they already provide a SIM capable of switching between several networks. This is absolutely true, however, what is not made clear in some cases is that an outage of the MNO with whom the SIM is hosted would mean that the SIM cannot 'lock onto' another network and is in effect rendered incapable of signalling due to an outage of a single supplier." I think many don't realise this; that the 'multisim' type of product can only help with day to day signal strength; not outright network failure. Interesting post as ever Joe, although I can't see manufacturers rushing to implement this, I wish they would though; for example I have a GPRS only site which fails every year when the Glastonbury carnival (with their temporary phone masts at full blast) rolls into town. Ultimately the customer will not pay for dual path; but a quick switch to a competitors network, just for 3 days, would cure this. Also, as I have mentioned before, a local town to us (Burnham) had no vodaphone whatsoever for 5 weeks earlier this year! So it is a real problem.
  12. GEC-Marconi, before the big selloff, would discipline people working after 6 without a very good reason to be doing so... They still managed to have several billion in the bank in those days,
  13. "hello, <puff> good <puff> afternoon.... and... sorry, can you give me a second... <sound of inhaler> "hi, yeah, thanks for calling back doctor, I think I'm having a heart attack at work..."
  14. That's not going to help, but even going up and down the stairs a few times is better than nowt. I'm not exactly boyband material myself but the scary thing is, long term survival rates are better for cancer (all types combined) than heart disease!
  15. Eh? What happened to 'Running Hard'... (in real life I don't mean the site title, I can see whats happened there!)
  16. Yep sorry I meant entirely from the POV of the OP He'll take an aspirin then call me
  17. Agreed but when you are very small / starting from nothing, the fact you're are not the faceless co. can be your USP and how you get chosen over bigger co's. I'm not saying that has to mean you are on the phone 24/7, but that's often how it works out, isn't it? So I think its an almost inevitable trap to fall in when starting out. Its true it could have been better managed by me, but I'm getting there and now all customers have it in writing how and when they can contact me depending on what they've paid for, the message has got through.
  18. This is the hardest thing, especially if you previously were. However, I'd say that is a bit easier for the smaller co now with auto attendent etc etc..
  19. tsi's very own answer to Howard Stern Does that mean we'll be phoning Andrew Sachs live on air?
  20. Hi Mark, You'll be fine. Ok, I understand why you've gone for the Activ8's fair enough. Any device with alarm and tamper loops can be converted to EOL, as I understand it the panel should come with 16 1K resistors. like this except I have NO idea why they've soldered it, just use the terminals! I know nothing about the flex so someone else will be along shortly to explain which expander(s) you need. You can do the same for the contact as above BUT I recommend you spend an extra £6 and buy an EOL contact with them built in, trust me doing it with resistors (unless you have the kind of contact with proper terminals rather than screw heads) is asking for trouble later! Going back to the bell you'll need to add up the current consumption of all the PIRS (will be in the manuals) and the two bells in standby. Then add the current for both of them sounding, compare it with available panel current (so a 1A panel will NOT have 1A available) etc... Have a look at the very recent thread started by zerozero (skip to the last couple of posts) for a better explanation! EDIT - as above but I don't know the panel, but suspect it will be too much as standard...
  21. Screech of brakes on unbridled criticism..... (joke) OK Mark all sounds reasonable, you'll need an expander as James said, its a shame you didn't ask before you bought as although SW are a great place to buy I would personally have bought from their extensive range of PIRs with EOL built in, such as Siemens, ditto for the contacts unless they are already EOL type, i.e. Knight or Elmdene with built in 1k/1k resistors. I'm not that familiar with the flex but be careful with the bells re: current draw; what I've done in the past is had one bell on SAB mode and the other on SCB, assuming the AG6 supports this; if it does it will be very clear on the instructions. Hope this helps!
  22. I'm sure last time I asked I had a direct account too. Looks like online ordering is out the question
