  1. Thanks Al, I assume that would be two separate zones to give a confirmed alarm if the door gets opened? Shaun, its only drawn in sketchup www.sketchup.com nothing too fancy but you can crash something out in 10 mins or so.
  2. Thanks for the advice chaps, I'm all setup and working and happy with what is detected on a walk test. The only thing I would like to query with you chaps is the Dual Tech in the garage is on the same wall as the up and over door as per the last diagram. If entering from the hall it detects you no problem at all. If you open the outside garage door obviously the door contact triggers but it then puts the garage door in a poisition to mask the PIR as its an up and over door. Would I be better off moving the sensor to an alternative location? I can't really see anywhere else that would offer better coverage to be honest!
  3. I'd consider it. Looks like a single layer crunch and punch PCB to me with a switch cap charge pump and a couple of switches. Depends how tight I'm feeling or if I want a project for a summer student its the ideal kind of thing for them to put the serial interface down on the board too )
  4. Would any of you chaps with a Texecom Premier Elite firmware flasher PCB take a quick photo of both sides of it and be able to post it up or send it to me?
  5. Thanks swb 1. I had considered the rear left corner but that has the same curtain rail issue for the window as opposed to the french doors. How much clearance do you need from the end of a curtain rail to the face of the sensor? Are there options other than pulling the sensors forward away from the corner? 2. I had considered this sensor position but due to the offset of the door to be able to see if from the other end of the hall it would have to move towards the wc door a foot or so. In a similar way to the lounge. The area just inside the door actually has a skylight in it too if that make any difference? I think the corner sensors will look slightly strange moved away from the corners by a few inches, is that how you pros do it or am I missing something?
  6. Holy thread resurrection etc. Sadly just after posting I fell ill and I'm only just getting back to full strength now and have decided to start back on the alarm... Referring back to my floorplan in post #5 above I have a couple of question: 1. There is a curtain rail the protrudes out from the patio doors by around 15cm or so and ends within around 35cm of where the sensor is in the diagram. In this instance do you still mount the sensor in the corner or would you move the sensor (still mounted at 45 degs) around 15cm in to the room? 2. Would the hall sensor be better positioned near the front door or is the current position identified above best to avoid being triggered by post etc?
  7. Understood. Assuming no v drop issues can i daisy chain up to 3 eol terminated sensors on 8 core cable? One power pair and 3 zone pairs?
  8. Thanks for the info. Very helpful! Is the Texecom stuff of good quality? Do the fire sensors / smokes take a zone each or are they normally wired to a single zone?
  9. Heres an updated plan. Looking at it now there is a route from the bathroom into the landing but everything off of there is covered. Would you still recommend one on the landing?
  10. Thanks guys. The sensors that are in the middle of the garage and hall were to be mounted off of the RSJ that runs across there that the upper floor sits off of. With the hall i was trying to stop false triggers from the letterbox etc and so that it didnt have to be on the ee timer? Where would you guys put one in these rooms? Ill add a pir to kitchen, and change to a heat sensor in the garage. Am i better off just then adding a pir in each of the other two bedrooms and not worrying with one on the landing then all entry routes are pir covered?
  11. I've had a bit of a lurk around the forum and I wondered if you guys could give my plans for the addition of an alarm system to my small 3 bed house a quick look over. My queries are: 1. Should I add additional PIR's in the other bedrooms or maybe just one additional one on the landing? 2. Do the locations of the sensors look sensible? 3. I have been looking at a Texecom Premier wired system and intend to run the cabling as a star configuration in 8 core cable. Is this of reasonable quality? Are there any known issues or errata with them? Any tips would be appreciated.
