Need help: I bought a spectra closeout control panel (7 zone) that I would like to use with several pir detectors. My question is does each detector have to be conected to a seperate zone or can I "daisy chain" them together? If so How? Also, do I have to use these 1K resistors anywhere that came with the panel or can I ignore them? Last, Anyone guess what AZT stands for? Thanks.

Hi there, First off, complements on the website, very professionally done. I am looking to install / have installed a wireless alarm system for a 4 bedroom house. Looking on various sites it looks like th Visonic Powermax is one of the more popular brands on the market at the moment. I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions and let me know about your thoughts on the system The current system is Class 5 and I notice that the Class 6 is on trial in the UK. Should I wait for the Class 6 trials to finish and get this one installed or go for the class 5 On the Visonic website they advertise a Pet

I want something very simple before going on hol in a couple of weeks. A dummy bellbox with a flashing LEDs inside might do. But I've already got a simple PIR alarm in the hall (Maplin KK72) which has sockets on the side for external siren and power. Could I wire this to a real bellbox such as Lynteck Midas or Vortex? The siren socket is normally closed and goes o/c on alarm. Or when the battery dies, so I'd have to feed it power from the bellbox battery. One side of the siren socket is common with the ext power -ve, the other side of the ext siren has to be +ve. Can it be done without additional electronics?

Right guys, me needs a bit of advice... I installed a conqueror about 6 years ago for my grandma and she has been fine with it, but now shes getting a bit older and I want to put in a better alarm system so that if she falls she can contact us. I know that Tunstall Telecom have a system that is used by social services so that in an emergency the customer can press a pendant necklace button to alert emergecy services. Something like this would be ideal but I would want the system to either contact a monitoring service or even better one of the famiy directly. Now I have been thinking I could install an 8 zone system like the Texecom R8, then a wireless zone extender a…

Hi there! I have contacted a number of NACOSS approved installers. One of them is BRITISH GAS. They are a large company, which leads to me to think they are good and reliable. However, they are amongst the most expensive ones: for a basic monitored security system in a three bedroom house (including garage) [4 wireless PIRS, a dual tech for the garage, 3 door contacts] they charge just over £1000. Any opinions? Thank you for helping. Stefano.

Hi All, I have a couple of questions that you might be able to help me with.... - One of the connectors on the Alarm PCB is called "Bell Hold Off". What is this and what does it do? - Right beside the bell hold off connector is another called "Self-Activating Bell Tamper Loop". What is this for? - When wiring PIR's, where do you normally take the power supply from? Surely not from the transformer? The panel in question does not have any AUX outputs for power. I have examined a similar panel installation and it would appear that the power is coming from the External Bell outputs. This doesn't make sence to me! Can some one help/explain!! Thanks, Jab PS - Panels …

:?: Hi all, Very interesting Forum, amazing what you find trawling the web these days! I've been looking for an alarm system for some time now. I've had //.National Installer.// around a couple of times and like the idea of a response center (especially linked to fire detection) but the whole idea falls over when someone cuts your 'phone line. //.National Installer.// are giving away 'free' systems which have a £150 'registration' fee, the £30 for the old bill and then £26/month. They say NTL will move all your 'phone lines inside your house for £50 and recon BT (wo I'm with) would do the same. I've yet to confirm this (haven't got the 3 hours spare to talk to 50 di…

HI All This is a really good site and i am wondering if anyone has an answer to my question. An installation we did some time ago is now showing a strange problem the client tests the system every month and the last 4 months have shown a problem with the operation of the PA buttons, in that when they are pressed the alarm activates as normal but the ST digicom fails to operate, even after some two minutes, but here is the bit i dont quite understand when the client enters there code to reset the system the digi then connects to the central station and they get a responce right away. The digi and panel work ok on intruder activation there is no problem here. The panel i…

I'm new to the industry having being employed earlier this year as a manager for a security company. The first part of the induction process involved training as an engineer which I enjoyed very much. Unfortunately the company I worked for turned out to be , let say pretty dodgy and I had a fall out with the boss and left. I'm quite interested in the engineering side of things and would like to carry on trainig if at all possible. I haven't been successful in finding a trainee engineer position anywhere so I guess I'm a bit stuck. I have a good knowledge of the basics and would just like to build on that really. Does anyone know if there are colleg course or other ways …
