You can lead a horse to water but you carnt climb a ladder with a bell in both hands.

E5 is there but a bit vague.

Its either the capstan belt fallen off, broken or old and worn. whip the bottom off and you should see the belt. If not it could be the mode switch. They are the most common, other than that its carriage faults and the odd loading belt that causes a problem.

cheers guys, its an old thing probably not worth repairing.

Just thought i`d ask about the error message incase it was something simple, I`ll have a look at the capstan belt when next on-site.

Tape jam?

as norman says, it's usually a tape error (mechanism) even when you remove the tape it sometimes won't clear.

Send it off for repair unless you're good with that kind of thing

Go with that carriage fault, used to do onsite repairs with new belts also it could be the pinch rollers are worn.
