Hi ive got an Optima G4 with additional LCD keypad sited close by, fitted approx 10 years ago. The mains LED is flashing on the keypad indicating a mains power issue. The power led on the main unit is steady. The error log indicates mains failure every few seconds.

All fuses test ok.I can see 240v AC at input and all tests ok. The system runs ok without the battery so mains must be healthy. Battery voltage ok and can see an increase when mains reapplied. Did see a similar report on this site.

The battery is main unit is only a few months old. The siren/bell box was changed recently as it went off in middle of night . I diagnosed it as faulty so changed it so that also has a new battery. Prior to old box being changed i had noticed the flashing LED on the LCD unit so could have been like this for some time.
Is this a problem i should be concerned about or not. All function work ok on the alarm. I can set/ unset it and all tests of siren and strobe function ok along with tamper.
Any ideas or anything else i can try to resolve this issue.

It could be that the transformer/ charging circuit  is on its way out, how many years between battery changes if your old battery was over 5 years old it may have been pulling the charging circuit down for some time 

Only one I've had with this issue was the PCB had burn marks on the back due to overloading from cooked battery.

The battery is changed every 4-5 years and the siren box less often.

If i did not have the extra LCD display unit i would be unaware there is an issue as the main G4 unit does not indicate a fault. Would it be best to upgrade the main control unit or would it be ok to leave the unit as it is?

It performs ok all functions work as expected.

If its working okay then leave it, if it is the charging circuit on its way out it will get worse, change the panel then 

I read in 2 different posts that users with identical problems had changed the large electrolitic capacitor on the main board. No doubt it is for smoothing the output supply.

Got to be worth a try before i ditch it.

yes it s the smoothing cap, do you have a scope to check the supply, is the cap bulging?

Capacitor looks ok but have seen 2 other reports with exact same symptons. Ordered a 2200 micro farad capacitor today. Will report back next week with result. If not will be looking for a new unit.
