The thing is your not going to have a private conversation about shagging your neighbors wife infront of a Police officer wearing a bodycam. Its about awareness recording audio on CCTV is covertly recording audio, the Police are doing it overtly

In exceptional circumstances where audio recording is being used, this should be stated explicitly and prominently. It should also be clearly stated if audio recording is used for a different or further purpose than visual recording.

If they decide they don’t want the feature it can be disabled, at the moment they do want it

in that case id advise they look into that, agreed it makes sense but its far from it

Reading the ICO Code of Practice  they also have to justify the reason for audio

If you have already bought the system, you should Version 1.2 36 20170609 look to see if you can incorporate any privacy by design technologies. 4. If you are using audio recording you should make sure that the system you have bought provides a high enough quality of recording to achieve your stated aim. 5. The way I understand it, audio must specifically be required for the original crime prevention purpose you need at design stage. Saying that you have realised audio is enabled means there was no requirement to have audio so therefore should be disabled.

The quote above covers it word for word.

Maybe in the grand scheme of things no-one notices or cares for years, but when an event happens and evidence is released that will be when it all boils over, with a good chance the local authority may enforce complete removal. Leaving you with no system.
