do they need to ask permission to talk to you first..

If it's someone I don't know, I prefer contact by other means first. If it's someone I know the polar opposite I can be the most friendly person alive. Same with phone calls, if I've given someone my number I'm happy for them to call but if someone calls me who had obtained it I go mad.

Guys. Thanks for your responses, although I must say they don't fill me with much confidence.

I totally agree with the stance on stand alone CCTV, total waste of money in my view, but remote monitoring, done correctly, is pro-active and DOES deter crime. Having specified, installed and monitored systems for many years I can confirm that.

As to what I do as an independent consultant, as mentioned, I can assist those that do not know the in's and out's on remote CCTV etc. and assist end users in determining what level of security they require without the pressure from the installer.

As to ARC charges, many are charging as little as £1.00 per camera per week, hardly expensive for cover every night 365 nights per annum

How do you work that one out?

Loads of places have 24hr monitored cctv signs now and a lot of them are not monitored at all,

If mr burglar believed every sign he read he'd go out of business
