  1. True, if I ever wanted a simple proscribed point of civil law clarifying the last person I'd ask is a copper.
  2. I had a great way of blocking ads on the PC using the Hosts file. Unfortunately I need to see if I can do the same at the router for youview...
  3. Hmm, sounds like PR chain rattling to me... Time will tell.
  4. Yes, indeed it's easy to forget most JP aren't as stupid as the average alarm monkey!
  5. Get paid? Slightly better effort than my smelly alarm joke How come they went to a security Co rather than broadcast? Oh yeah, cost?!
  6. Used to use these when we did a lot of Cat5 stuff for someone I worked for. Horrible things IMHO.
  7. Yep this is it when you're checking every year, it's not so relevant.
  8. Was it something like lead carbon I saw in Rs last year, five times the price but a ten year warranty?
  9. Has anyone ever thought of making a 7aH battery comprised of several bellbox batteries?
  10. Suppose it depends if you are just trying to demonstrate an above average level of antisocial behaviour to plod / council rather than court as such. Still not the greatest kit though, even by budget standards.
  11. +1 Axis are bulletproof, and no mickey mouse company to deal with either, which is a bonus.
  12. Yeah thought that except customer says they got to choose the kitchen but were never offered an alarm Maybe some Co they had lined up pulled out Oh and there is a no bellbox covenant on the whole estate, oops!!
  13. Sized up a job this week where no wiring in a new build but a spur on a dedicated circuit marked alarm. Must have been for a wireless system but not even a keypad wire. Odd.
  14. Im qual but not part p, as I try to avoid panels in bathrooms and Sheds! And non domestic isnt under the scheme as we all know. All paperwork using iet model forms.
  15. There is absolutely no requirement for any additional fused spur being added to a ring circuit or lighting circuit to be doneby a Part P bod. But it should be a competent person and should be certificated for the tests that were done. Obvious exceptions would be; Domestics in a Bathroom or when any part of the cable runs outdoors with a junction box also being outside Connecting direct to the CU and prob lots of others....
  16. Hi Les, going back to the original post, a map like that might be good actually....
  17. Pyronix and texecom now sell versions of their boxes which can be dummy, wireless, or trad wired in the same looking outer case(s). AFAIK only wired have LEDs.
  18. Or a wireless version of a Texecom or Pyronix box?
  19. Wireless bellboxes often don't have LEDs of any kind and they are increasing. So impossible to say these days. Conversely I often fit a dummy box with signalling systems that has a 5 year battery powered LED.
  20. "Some providers may indicate that they already provide a SIM capable of switching between several networks. This is absolutely true, however, what is not made clear in some cases is that an outage of the MNO with whom the SIM is hosted would mean that the SIM cannot 'lock onto' another network and is in effect rendered incapable of signalling due to an outage of a single supplier." I think many don't realise this; that the 'multisim' type of product can only help with day to day signal strength; not outright network failure. Interesting post as ever Joe, although I can't see manufacturers rushing to implement this, I wish they would though; for example I have a GPRS only site which fails every year when the Glastonbury carnival (with their temporary phone masts at full blast) rolls into town. Ultimately the customer will not pay for dual path; but a quick switch to a competitors network, just for 3 days, would cure this. Also, as I have mentioned before, a local town to us (Burnham) had no vodaphone whatsoever for 5 weeks earlier this year! So it is a real problem.
  21. tsi's very own answer to Howard Stern Does that mean we'll be phoning Andrew Sachs live on air?
