Government Alert test - GSM Diallers

Featured Replies

Hi all,

As the heading suggests, the Government Alert test that will be happening this Sunday. Does anyone know or have any info on what it might do to GSM diallers, or do we sit tight and hope for the best? I personally own & run two units, one is here with me but the other is 2 hours away.

Cheers

Alistair

I cant see that a text message would effect a dialler or any GSM device designed to send signals

It won't do anything to unsupported devices.

Thats just the answer I was hoping for. At least the 2 hour away one, I could remote reset it

It's not SMS, it's a tower broadcast your device would have to understand what it was and then action it, otherwise it will just do nothing.

Your right tho, why should anything inbound affect outbound operation at all. It's the same for every device with a SIM.

It's only really going to be up to date Android and iOS devices that will do anything if you have broadcasts enabled.

I'm waiting for a string of motorway accidents at 1500 Sunday.

Pick a time when everyone is travelling home from weekends away to test an unusual alert system/sound that needs a user interaction to cancel...

Yes its going to flag up a few problems I think. The one I never thought of is the secret phones that venerable people are using in abuse cases, once they start buzzing and reacting to a test message....

Yep. It will override DND and/or Silent too, you would have to manually disable these broadcast alerts in the options for those devices. I would expect people providing devices for those cases should know.

I've just set a reminder to take the sim cards out of my burner phone and second family phone.

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
