Intellisense keypad 'dead'? How to get system up and running... help please.

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

We recently moved into a house (new to us) which has an Intellisense alarm keypad, a (as far as I can see) Securit 800L / ST800L+ system and a ‘box’ on the outside wall of the house. There are various sensors dotted around the house which all seem to be live, flashing red when movement is detected. There is also a mains-powered fire alarm detection system which may or may not be linked…...

However, there do not appear to be any lights lit on the keypad (which suggests it’s not powered up), and when we asked the previous owners they said they never had a code, and never used the alarm.

I tried telephoning the number on the exterior box, but the number is no longer in service. Also none of the numbers for C&K Systems work, nor does their website or e-mail address, so I assume they're no longer with us.

Obviously we’re not keen to ‘fiddle’ with anything, and so far a manual ‘override’ of previous settings seems to be quite hard to find. We’re not after a system which alerts the police necessarily, but simply one where we can set it, and if someone breaks in will sound an alarm.

Is this likely to be an expensive ‘fix’, or is 'someone' able to give me some guidance so I can get it working myself, please? I'd prefer to understand what system I have, do a full 'back to factory' reset myself, and start from ground zero. Pic of keypad attached for info.

Sounds like the best option is to contact a few local installers and see what they say. It's most likely that the system has been decommissioned (powered down) which was sensible if they didn't use it.

I would probably recommend to replace the controls and the external sounder myself in this situation but it's possible the system may work if recommissioned.

The main issue with takeovers like this is you have no idea of the condition of the system. If they had false alarms, if was decommissioned for a reason, it maybe be the keypad is faulty or fuses are blown it hard to say from a photo.

You know if you have some electrical or electronic experience it's possible, but probably if you here no offence but you probably won't be able to do it

Thanks for the reply. I do have electronics knowledge, but what concerns me is resetting the system once it's all powered up without setting it off. The manual doesn't have much info which is helpful for a factory reset, and Intellisense (whoever they are now) are seemingly difficult to find. If I get it powered up, but still can't get into the system I'm not really any further forward.

So get keypad powered up first then?

Your making no sense , if you power up keypad you may get a clue , if you can't power it up then that's that, because that's the first thing anyone might try and do

Buy a dog is the next suggestion someone might give you lol jesting of course

Programming is one aspect we do not provide installation manual or defaulting information here as per our guidelines.

You also need to test all the components including the sensors work, replace the standby batteries, get up and reconnect then test the external sounder if required.

Test the voltages and the battery is charging etc, yes you could just power it up and cross your fingers, but it is a security system after all. For peace of mind you'd want it right IMO.

If you do try to power it up be aware you may trigger the external sounder and also there will be mains voltages present in there too.

That panel is at least 20 years old, they stopped making them in 2000. I know that its not very green but these panels where never that good when they where new. With no idea of the history of the system or if it works or not, my advice would be to replace it with something newer, albeit if you do it yourself or get a professional in. Its a hard wired system and so all the cables are in place, unless they have been cut or damaged I would start by metering those if theyre okay then just update the lot, no point in having something if its going to be unreliable a annoy your neighbours
