POE Camera Help Please

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have cracked on with installing my CCTV, I have run a few cat 5 cables and tested them successfully using my Haydon tester. Unfortunately after running a length through some conduit I have found that my tester is flashing both pins 1 & 2 simultaneously and then cycling through the other pins correctly at one end, the other end flashes fine.

Will I have to replace the whole cable or will my Hikvision turret camera be ok with the 1 & 2 pins, I guess crossed? I am unsure if the camera uses those pins?

I have replaced both ends and redone the connection but it has not fixed the problem.

Thanks for any help

Regards

I came across something like this , was usually the connector or the tester itself  even though the connections had be redone , I did them myself and it worked fine

Take the connectors off and test the pairs with a meter if it's trouble replacing cable that might not need replacing

if poe it will need all 8 cores in tact

I won’t be able to power it locally unfortunately. I have redone the connection at the remote end and I still have 1&2 flashing the same time and now pin 4 is not lighting up at both ends.

it may be my connections that are not great so going to try the remote end again and if that fails I will have to replace the cable I guess.

it’s annoying as I don’t know where the kink or damage along the cable will be as it’s all in conduit. I also cut it off the drum before testing.

I am going to look at the drum to see if I can find the other end to test it before cutting it off.

have you tested your tester with a patch lead which has been purchased as an item made by a factory ?

Another IT bod had one of those his cable wouldn't work I told him it's the face plate

IPC tester showed him what his unit wouldn't

Thanks for the reply's, I checked my tester on a known working patch lead to double check and then redone the connections again for a third time at both ends and must have been third time lucky as it is now testing correctly.

I have two cameras up now, one left for today and then the tricky couple at the end I think.
